Big or small, nikon or canon

my first DSLR, i'm going to photography childreen, flowers, and outdoors.

i want the a flip out screen.

In fact its a choice for nikon or canon.

would you have any other selection?

    this month nick recommends the Nikon D5100

    nikon should do all that canon an do for this comparison

    however u will need different lenses for the needs

    try a 55-300 or a 70-300 lens for better zoom

    macro can be via macro filter or extentubes to keep cost low

    artistic factor is on ur ability to visualize and compose - can be done with an iphone too ;)
