Which is Better for all round use as your primary camera?

I like versatile cameras as I like taking photos almost anywhere. However Size is not a problem for me. As I will be using this as my main camera I would like a camera that is good for a wide range of different photos (macro, low light, wide, stills, street photography).  I have started not long in photography, but I am learning fast and I would also like something that is very easily manual and I will most likely to be sticking with the camera for a long time.

:)

Which camera do you recommend for Dixon-Pascal-Lai?

Canon G1X - $649
14.2 MP|4x f/2.8|Four Thirds CMOS|3" LCD
Sony DSC-RX100 - $639
20 MP|3.6x f/1.8|Nikon CX EXMOR|3" LCD

This is a tough one. In overall, Canon G1X is better for general photography, but Sony RX100 is more versatile (macro, sweep panorama, faster shooting).

BUT because macro is one of your priorities, I recommend the Sony RX100. Canon G1X is NOT for macro shooting. If we forget about macro, Canon G1X would be a slightly better choice because its bulkier size is not a problem for you.

G1X has sweep panoramas; I'm not sure why the stats show that it doesn't. They're the last two "Scene" modes. I own a G1X and I'm actually considering getting a RX100 purely for Macro and easy pocketability (easier to convince my wife to put it in her purse!), it makes that much of a difference.

Also, another good feature the RX100 has that G1X is missing is handheld HDR - when I use almost exclusively on the phone and often on my HX5. Something to think about, since the G1X's HDR is tripod only and ruins any photo you try to use it with handheld. They really cheaped out on the programming on that one.
