I need a camera that will survive a deployment. Do you have any suggestions even if its not these cameras. I need something with good quality, tough, compact size, durability, decent battery life, and something recommendable.

Which camera do you recommend for Mike-Olsen?

Olympus TG-810 - $392
13.8 MP|5x f/3.9|1/2.5" CCD|3" LCD
Olympus TG-610 - $210
13.8 MP|5x f/3.9|1/2.5" CCD|3" LCD

Oly TG1: Get a camera that you can turn off the preflash and red eye flash and focus assist so that the flashing of the camera does not attract attention to you rendering you a sudden person of interest. or a target. Successful photography prefers a low profile.

This camera has only the lense cover as the only external moving part so it won't be that affected by sand/dust.  I've taken this camera under water to about 30 feet and it didn't leak- it was in the water for about 45 min straight.  It feels solidly built though I have dropped it or thrown it.  I deployed last time with a different camera that greatly suffers from dust intake- though I know people that had this one in AFG (daily dismounted patrols, not sitting on the FOB) and it's still working great- that's why I got one.
