Looking to upgrade my Canon 450D

Eiza-Aziz | Asked  9 months ago | Last response was 6 months ago

I've been using 450D for almost 4 years now and thinking to upgrade to something better. I'm thinking of 7D, but then my friend asking me why not the 60D. i'm looking for help here, I mainly take pictures for weddings and other outdoor events.

Which camera do you recommend for Eiza-Aziz?

Canon 450D
12.2 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Canon 7D - $1,220
17.9 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Canon 60D - $699
17.9 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

In terms of image quality, it's an even match between these two. There are better APS-C options out there, but it seems that you have decided to stick with Canon.

7D is ahead in build quality, ergonomics, focusing and it shoots faster (8 vs 5.3fps)

But are these worth the extra $500 compared to 60D? It's up to you.

60D's advantage is the swivel screen, which is useful when using tripod and shooting video.

In my opinion, the 60D is better value in this contest.

I came to this exact crossroad with my old 450D.  I recommend the 60D ultimately because of its articulating screen which will benefit your type of photography.

Its been a few months now since I upgraded and almost all the situations the screen helped me to capture moments especially with fresh creative angles.

The rest of the features are almost similar among the two models but one thing that stands out from the 7D is speed, which would help if you want to freeze sports and race events.

Why the 60D rather than something with more current technology?? The 60D is two years old, it has worse ISO sensitivity, a slower processor, and no automatic focus for video. The Canon T4i has everything the 60D has, PLUS twice the ISO, a faster processor, automatic focus for video, and it cost $130 less... Look for yourself: side-by-side at www.dpreview.com

Simple answer to you is that Eiza-Aziz asks of those options. Surely anyone would just buy the latest tech but perhaps the poster has other reasons.

Just trying to let Eiza-Aziz who has a 4 year old entry level dslr know that there are more than the 2 options being considered. Picking the "ultimate" camera in today's market is like hitting a moving target. I love my 7D and happy I bought it. But would I buy it today with the 5D II being only $300 more?

I own 4 canon dslr's. 10D 20D 450 and 7D. They are all good cameras and I really like my 7D. But if I were buying a dslr camera at this point and time I would have to answer some basic questions first.

Why do I need to upgrade?

Why should I buy anything other than a full frame dslr in today's market?

Should I stick with canon or check out nikon and possibly sony? All three brands have recently released lower level full frame dslr's.

If you don't have a lot of high end canon lenses, you may want to consider exploring another brand. If you want to stick with canon, you may want to consider the 6D (You may have to wait for that option - it's been announced but not yet released) The 6D has a full frame sensor and improved ISO's and will sell for $500-$600 more than the 7D. The 7D model is about 3 years old now and is not full frame.

If you're leaning towards sticking with the APS-C size sensor, besides the 60D you might want to check out the Rebel T4i. Many of the same features as 60D but also has continuous auto focus in video mode.

The 7D's speed and responsiveness will be invaluable for shooting weddings. And the 18 megapixel sensor offers stellar quality, some of the best on this side of a full frame.

Please read my answer to Azita-Ghasemi in reference to her "grainey photos" question.

But if you don't, the 7D's focus is superior, once you have Canon tech people help set it properly in "Custom Function".

I also own a 60D which is very nice, but, the 7D is still much, much better.

From 550D to 7D .... all are with almost same sensor and hence image quality.

    So 60D can suffice.
Also you may search an used 5D Mark II which is far more better than these.

Good camera for her weeding photography as it has 8fps....she will not miss any memorable moments.

      Canon 60D isn't 8fps. The 7D is 8fps. 60D can do 5.3.
