FF camera for short documentary

Naomi-Woods | Asked  7 months ago | Last response was 7 months ago

New to photography and film.  Looking for a camera that takes good video and photos that I can use now as a newby as well as grow into as I learn more.  I do lots of traveling and want to do a short documentary on my work/field.  I have heard that the Canon 5d mark ii is the place to start for quality film and photos.  Some of the videos I have seen that were shot on the 5d Miii, look great.  However, I worry that it looks great because the people using them know what they are doing particularly in regards to lighting.  I will need to study as I go.  Is this the best camera for me?

Which camera do you recommend for Naomi-Woods?

Canon 5D Mark II - $2,199

The 5D mark II is an amazing camera and it's value per price is only getting better as newer cameras come into the market.  Buy it and install Magic Lantern on it (a free video app) and you will never look back.

Having said that, you make a keen observation that great videos (and photos) are a result of the creators and not so much the camera.  I've seen great videos shot with cheaper cameras like the T2i.  see Chalk Warfare 2.0.

However, if you have the budget to spare... a full frame camera like the 5DII will be more useful in more situations.

5d Mark ii is kind of already classics for video shooting

however new d600 nikon seems like a better option for both video and shooting with its fast autofocus, uncompressed hdmi video ability and top low light performance
