Help me to make a good choice! Canon or Nikon

Arturo-Navarro-Bernal | Asked  6 months ago | Last response was 6 months ago

Hello, I'm trying to decide between the Nikon D5200 and Canon T4i, but according to what I've read in different blogs it seems like the choice is not easy, both are very good. However, none of the blogs say anything about "Astrophotography", which is one of the reasons why I want  the camera for. Could you please give me your advise comparing these 2 cameras in terms of quality image, battery time (# Shoots) and which one would be more suitable for astrophotography? Your opinion will be useful to make a final decision!  Thanks.

Which camera do you recommend for Arturo-Navarro-Bernal?

Canon T4i - $650
17.9 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Nikon D5200 - $697
24 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

The Canon 60Da is designed specifically for astrophotography. Have you considered it?

The Canon 60Da was a redesign of the popular semi-pro camera, the 60D. The 60Da has been designed specifically for astrophotography. If that's what you're genuinely interested, the 60Da should go to the top of your list.

The Canon 60D can use the Magic Lantern enhancement, so you can do time lapses and other useful features that can help you doing astrophography.

The D5200 can do time-lapses without having to hack your firmware. It depends on what lenses you will be spending money on.

Neither of these two cameras have the bulb feature which sucks

The Canon does indeed have a bulb mode. The Nikon probably does too.
