This camera is wonderful, strongly built, attractive, shoots great pics and very very decent HD video (I am comparing to my HD camcorder HF20).

The best part is indeed the FANTASTIC quality of the pictures (I had a Nikon Coolpix 14 megapixel and this Canon surpasses it by far).
ELPH 100 HS by danielle-barnes (Dec, 2011)
Other modes I haven't found much use for is the "Smart Shutter" that focuses/zooms on people's faces, which never seems to work right, and the "Best Image Selection" which again is 3 megapixels.

After experimenting with the camera, I cannot understand why Canon programmed the camera to shoot at such high ISO settings when so much crisper pictures are achieved with the lower ISO settings.
ELPH 100 HS by R.-Smith
amazing high ISO quality (for a compact, it's not going to hang with a DSLR).

The product description for the Canon 100 HS and the 300 HS are very similar and it appears to be mostly just the wide angle and zoom.
ELPH 100 HS by Tuan-Thach (Apr, 2011)

The 100 HS has a fairly large assortment of shooting options, but almost all of them are automatic modes, meaning there's no full control over shutter speed and aperture.
ELPH 100 HS by c|net (Feb, 2012)
Well, it does give up on any reasonable manual control, things like setting shutter speed, lens aperture, ISO.

The optical zoom is a nice feature, and works well.
ELPH 100 HS by James-N.-Diley--Tech--Mech--and-DIY (Apr, 2012)
As others have already pointed out, the optical zoom of the 100 HS is not available for video, so any zooming has to be with the digital zoom.

As someone who used to use film cameras, I'm still amazed by how much processing a little pocket camera like this has built in.

I am a Canon girl and I like this little camera; it takes good, sharp pictures.

The 1080p full HD video is amazing as well.

Image quality

The NIGHT MODE on this camera truly brings out the subject in front of you and the background with great clarity and vivid colors.
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 100% by by Sherif-Mageed (Jul, 2012)
The low light settings is incredible, and it also takes very clear shots.
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 100% by by Toni (Nov, 2011)
I really like - image quality is great for what I'm shooting, it's smaller than the previous cameras (other ELPHs, Samsung, and Nikons), and has an excellent price point.

Lens

It works wonderfully (well-designed and engineered, rapid turnaround time, nice zoom stabilization, good color reproduction, good flash, convenient battery charger), and fits nicely in a small case I also got here at Amazon.
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 100% by by Harold-Kyriazi (Jul, 2012)
If you set the 100 HS for the aspect ratio 3:2 or 16:9 and you plan to zoom during a video with the digital zoom, you should set the aspect ratio to 4:3 before starting the video.
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 40% by by M.-Kato--MK
It seems slightly more compact with wonderful features (like 4x Optical Zoom).
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 100% by by Randolf-J.-Rice (May, 2011)

Screen

It has a large screen, great resolution, zooms smoothly, and it was taking good pictures in a not so well lit room.
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 100% by by PharmD--Dusty-Allen (Apr, 2012)
The screen is big though relatively low resolution, but good enough for framing shots and being able to tell if the picture turned out.
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 100% by by SaintViper (Nov, 2011)
The colors are vivid and the screen is clear.
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 100% by by Gearz (Jan, 2012)

Zoom

Using the zoom while in picture taking mode will zoom optically first, then will adjust digital zoom if held for a longer time.
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 80% by by P.-Schmidt (Jul, 2011)
The new ELPH models have a 5x zoom versus this 4x zoom but that didn't stop me from buying this model numerous times for the price it's at.
Canon ELPH 100 HS | Rated 100% by by Sherif-Mageed (Jul, 2012)
It produces great looking photos, and has a decent zoom.
