The HD movie feature is nice and you can zoom in while recording,(you will hear the camera zooming when you play back your movie) but again, my CyberShot produces clearer movies in Fine mode than the Canon in HD.

This HD is not as good as fine or super fine movie recording in my opinion.

As a 2 megapixel camera (where thegeneral classes are 1, 2, and 3 megapixels..., respectively at the time of this writing), I've been very happy with my purchase.
PowerShot SD3500 IS by Andre-Stechert (May, 2000)
The 14 megapixels are nice to have (I guess) but that's not the best thing about this camera.

sensor size

Canon PowerShot SD3500 IS
Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100
Leica V-Lux 40
If you only want 4x6 inch prints it will not be so noticeable.Comparing the Canon SD3500 IS to the above I get acceptable prints considering the sensor size, AWB is pretty good but still needs tweaking.
PowerShot SD3500 IS by R.-Manteufel--mrmanny (Mar, 2010)
The sensor is tiny and noise is a factor which must be dealt with during editing.
PowerShot SD3500 IS by R.-Manteufel--mrmanny (Mar, 2010)

wide angle lens

Canon PowerShot SD3500 IS
Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100
Canon PowerShot SX230 HS
The wide angle is great.
PowerShot SD3500 IS by B.-Tran (Mar, 2010)
Even though the image quality is not as good (on some cases), the overall picture usually looks better because of the wide-angle lens (24mm vs 35mm) and several other tweaks that can be made.
PowerShot SD3500 IS by B.-Tran (Mar, 2010)

aperture size

Canon PowerShot SD3500 IS
Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100
Canon PowerShot SX500 IS
In "auto" mode, the camera always tries to shoot with the aperture wide open, usually around 2.8, further decreasing image quality.

AE Lock - To lock exposure settings (shutter speed and aperture) independently of the auto focus hold the shutter release half-down and press SET.

The zoom on the camera is very nice.

If you are looking for an easy to use point and shoot, compact camera that is very light weight also shoots great video I think you will be happy with the SD3500.
PowerShot SD3500 IS by Fred-L.-Dimmick (Feb, 2010)
Because of its size and weight it fits well in your shirt or pants pocket and as it suited for carrying all day long.

shutter lag

Canon PowerShot SD3500 IS
Nikon Coolpix S3100
Canon ELPH 300 HS
I'm spoiled & used to the much faster EOS rebel XS shutter speed.
PowerShot SD3500 IS by P.-Andres--abad98eb
In normal conditions, I get a faster shutter speed than with other cameras I have owned.

max continuous shooting

The continuous shooting response on this camera is very slow when you select that particular mode.
PowerShot SD3500 IS by Trinity702 (May, 2010)

Overall image quality is excellent, with very good detail and definition, good, bright colours and less CCD noise than competitive cameras.

Most people's computer resolutions are set to 800x600, and a picture that size would fill up the whole screen, if that gives you any idea.

I used the serial connection for images transfer from camera to pc for over a year until I purchase a computer with USB connection (yes I had an old old machine).

Lens

Maybe this is not a Carl Zeiss Lens but it's a decent glass multi element lense from Canon.
Canon PowerShot SD3500 IS | Rated 80% by by Chilam (Dec, 2001)
The 5X zoom is really good for a point and shoot camera.
Canon PowerShot SD3500 IS | Rated 100% by by Trinity702 (May, 2010)
Besides the zoom and large amount of picture storage, this camera can do a ton of stuff that I couldn't do on my old Fujifilm camera.

As far as the video, it's a nice added feature to take small clips with.
