Canon Rebel T3

$332
  • 12.2 MP
  • APS-C CMOS
  • 2.7" LCD
Released February, 2011
720p video is another conservative choice, with no manual control over exposure and no auto-focusing during recording, but it does provide a solid enough introduction to the world of movie-making.

Overall the video shooting isn't as seamlessly integrated as it is on some of the competitors - you still have to select a separate mode to engage video shooting.

this is aobut 12,000 compared to 18,000 megapixals which is not a big differance expecially if you compare the much more expensive price for the higher megapixel.

All of the sample images in this Review were taken using the 12 megapixel Fine JPEG setting, which gives an average image size of around 5Mb.

With an APS-C sensor the 1100D can't produce the very shallow depth-of-field footage that a full-frame camera, such as the 5D Mark II, offers but still gives you much more control in this respect than most movie cameras on the market.
Rebel T3 by DPReview (Apr, 2011)
Like all of Canon's APS-C digital SLR cameras, the EOS 1100D / T3 is compatible with the manufacturer's entire line-up of lenses, including both EF and EF-S glass.

The Pentax K-r is only slightly more expensive and comes, like the 1100D, with a 720p video mode but puts a higher screen resolution, faster continuous shooting, a larger viewfinder and a more customizable user interface on top.
Rebel T3 by DPReview (Apr, 2011)
All DSLRs at this level crop the frame slightly when you look through the viewfinder - in other words you get slightly more in the final picture than you see through the viewfinder.

If you pair it with a light-weight prime lens like 50mm 1.8 or 35mm 2.0 (i would highly recommend both) - the whole package becomes a light-weight amazing photos machine.

Both are selling at the same price, but the T3 offers a few upgrades: 12MP vs 10 MP, faster burst mode, video mode and more focusing points on the sensor.

But if your looking to buy it for wildlife shooting or kids, is better to buy the kit that comes with the 55-250 mm zoons len, it has image stabilization system and works better when the object is quite far away from you or moving, if you buy this kit with the 75-300mm lens will have to program the continuous shooting to avoiding camera shake and blurry pictures.

The auto mode is typically pretty good for most photos, but you'll have to play with the settings on "Creative Auto" for best pictures under low light.

The battery life is ridiculous- I used it all afternoon shooting continuous high shutter speed in Av for about 600 shots and 7 minutes of HD video and its still showing that I haven't dented the remaining battery life.

So far, the battery life has been good and the user interface has been easy to learn.

At 720p the footage is not quite as detailed as the 1080p output of some of the competitors but motion is smooth and there are no visible artifacts.

The small body, large buttons and intuitive external controls, Creative Auto mode and on-screen Feature Guide make the EOS 1100d more appealing to owners of compacts looking to upgrade to a DSLR, but we'd also have liked to see an integrated cleaning system and the Scene Intelligent Auto mode included too, both features which would have made this camera even more beginner-friendly.

Autofocus performance is near instant in good light although the 1100D’s built-in AF motor is quite noisy.

Great but still learning waiting for a power converter so I can charge the battery as we are australia and the fitting is not right for us here, great camera will enjoy more soon.

The stabilizer feature did a remarkable job in keeping sharp focus while using a. Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras shooting with available light in a dense forest, giving clear, crisp resolution.

The 55-250 IS lens that comes in this bundle is a better lens - a great match for this camera.

Video

I looked specifically for a camera that was under $500 and had quality auto focus abilities, as I do not like to fiddle around with camera settings (because I usually screw them up), rapid fire picture taking so I don't have to wait while photographing the grandkids, superior picture quality, HD video setting, excellent battery life (a must), easy to upload to my computer and was overall reliable.
