Processed JPEG images are, as might be expected, noticeably sharper than their unprocessed Raw counterparts, although of course it’s possible to get better results from Raw files by sharpening them to your own personal specifications using dedicated post-production software.

If neither of those sounds quite fast enough, then the F550 can go even faster – up to 11 frames per second in stills mode and 320 frames per second for movies – albeit with overall resolution greatly reduced to 4MP and 320 x 112 pixels respectively.

The 16 megapixel F550EXR features a lightning quick auto-focus system, full 1080p movies, built-in GPS, and 8fps continuous shooting.
FinePix F550 EXR by Photography Blog (May, 2011)
The Fujifilm Finepix F550 EXR is a stylish, full-featured and likeable compact camera, with the 15x zoom opening up a wealth of framing possibilities, but the move to a 16 megapixel sensor and the resulting drop in image quality rather spoils the party.

Fujifilm FinePix F550 EXR
Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ7
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX150
I knew that the Fuji would not stack up well against the Sony (since the sensor for that camera is SLR size) but I expected it to easily outshine the three year-old Panasonic.
FinePix F550 EXR by Thomas-Hyatt (Apr, 2011)
The capability for RAW and RAW+JPEG files is a big benefit of this camera.

I would say my main concerns were: small size (easily pocketable), good image quality, wide-angle lens, manual controls, lots of neat features (like face detection/recognition, ae bracketing, panorama, etc), good low-light capability, and HD video capability.
FinePix F550 EXR by Music-Critic (Apr, 2011)
Wide angle in a P. &S is a must for the type of pictures I take and 27MM is as low as I will go and prefer < 25MM.

In a pocket size camera, the choice is a fast lens OR a long zoom, but not both.
FinePix F550 EXR by Dennis-C.-Smith (May, 2011)
Befitting its billing as an advanced-level compact the F550 offers a wide range of shooting modes, including the regular creative quartet of Program, Aperture-priority, Shutter-priority and Manual (PASM), along with an Automatic mode and 18 individual Scene modes.

On the other hand, I believe Fujifilm image was little more clear when photo was taken at normal zoom.

shutter lag

Fujifilm FinePix F550 EXR
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W690
At its maximum 360mm reach, a fast shutter speed combined with the camera's built-in image stabilisation technology has helped to keep edges fairly sharp, although detail remains less resolved.
FinePix F550 EXR by TrustedReviews (May, 2011)
I'm sure it's a fluke, because looking at other cameras, they had the exact same looking shutter doors (yes, other brands besides fuji).
FinePix F550 EXR by dude (Apr, 2011)

max continuous shooting

However, you’ll need to enter the menu system each time you want to do so as the camera automatically reverts to single-shot mode each time one of the burst functions has been used.
FinePix F550 EXR by TrustedReviews (May, 2011)
Capable of auto-focusing in as little as 0.16 second, other highlights of the successor to the popular F300 EXR include an EXR Back Side Illuminated CMOS sensor, advanced GPS functionality, high-resolution 3 inch LCD screen, 8fps continuous shooting, RAW image capture, full 1080p HD movies and High Speed movie capture at 320 fps.

Fujifilm FinePix F550 EXR
The Fujifilm FinePix F550 EXR's maximum shutter speed is 30 seconds, which is great news if you're seriously interested in night photography.

The camera works well in low light, providing me with better images than my eyes do, without flash.

Clearly hoping to join the ranks of the travel-compact elite, the Fujifilm F550 EXR is a feature-packed compact that builds on the strengths of the F300 EXR launched last year.

The F550 EXR is still a good camera, with a long list of stand-out features and a logical, well-thought-out interface, but as with the HS20 EXR that we reviewed recently, we can't help feeling that the model that the F550 replaces actually produces better photos.

Build - Build quality on this unit is very good.

Even though I'm a little disappointed in the video quality on 1080, I'm still satisfied with the camera and am happy with my purchase.

The round selector has the usual features (flash on, menu access, self timer, etc.) and also a nice jog shuttle wheel (command dial) that will scroll through menus and settings as well.

At ISO 200 a small amount of noise is visible but the image remains crisp.

Lens

In summary, pictures from the F550EXR are great, but don't expect pixel perfect quality in a 15X pocket shirt pocket zoom.

Image quality

Granted that M size is the best size to give the highest photo quality, it may not matter at the end.
Fujifilm FinePix F550 EXR | Rated 60% by by mypotbelly
Depending on the choice of film simulation the F550 is able to deliver punchy, vivid colours or something more muted and understated.

GPS

There is a GPS mode in the camera, but I have not used it yet, as I am happy to tag my own photos when I upload them to the laptop.
Fujifilm FinePix F550 EXR | Rated 100% by by Sam-Brady
Still, the GPS is very accurate and uploads to Flickr are pinpointed within a few yards.
Fujifilm FinePix F550 EXR | Rated 100% by by Karen-Kelly--aka-lizard--a-geek (Apr, 2011)
While the camera itself is excellent, the GPS can take well over 1 hour to find itself.

Video

Video: The full HD movies are quite good, and the sound was great, I was taking movies at the beach with a brisk breeze and the microphones picked up mostly ocean sound and very little wind noise.
Fujifilm FinePix F550 EXR | Rated 100% by by Karen-Kelly--aka-lizard--a-geek (Apr, 2011)
The HD video mode is also excellent - one of the best I have seen on a digicam.
