Measuring just 32.7mm thick, key features of the S8200 include a 16.1 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, high resolution 3 inch LCD screen, full 1080p high-definition movies with stereo sound, lens-shift Vibration Reduction, 1cm macro mode, shooting mode dial and a fast auto-focus system, shutter-lag and startup time.

Other shooting options include several burst shooting options, including 120fps and 60fps bursts that capture up to 60 shots at VGA and 1-megapixel resolution, respectively, and an HDR (high dynamic range) mode that combines photos taken at different exposures to help bring out highlight and shadow detail.

sensor size

Nikon Coolpix S8200
Samsung NX1000
Canon ELPH 310 HS
All of the sample images in this Review were taken using the 16 megapixel Fine JPEG setting, which gives an average image size of around 6Mb.
Coolpix S8200 by Photography Blog (Oct, 2011)
I'd argue that while the lens is nice, the extra megapixels are not important.

wide angle lens

Nikon Coolpix S8200
Canon ELPH 310 HS
Canon PowerShot SX50 HS
These shots of a white coloured wall were taken at a distance of 1.5m. Forced Off - Wide Angle (25mm).
Coolpix S8200 by Photography Blog (Oct, 2011)
The lens has a fairly fast maximum aperture of f/3.3 at the wide-angle end but a rather slow f/5.9 at full telephoto.

aperture size

Nikon Coolpix S8200
Sony Cyber-shot WX50
Canon IXUS 220 HS
Indeed, according to the specifications (pg 6) the aperture has only 2 positions f3.3 and f6.6 (at the widest zoom), although you don't have a choice even there.
Coolpix S8200 by Stoney (Jul, 2012)
The only people who might not like this camera are those who want to fiddle with their own f-stops, etc. to override the auto settings and do everything manually, or those who truly want just point-and-shoot and nothing else.

While I love the idea of the P300s fast 1.8 lens, the P300s zoom range is around 24-100mm, whereas this camera's is 25-300mm, and I really need the zoom more than the fast lens.
Coolpix S8200 by LittleReadBooks--n--More--LittleReadBooks--n--More (Dec, 2011)
The S8200 has such a sensitive sensor and such effective image stabilization that hand-held long-telephoto photos can be sharp.

The battery life is good, too.
Coolpix S8200 by Rosalyn-K.-Taylor--rktaylor (Dec, 2011)
The battery life was a bit low, plus it had to be charged in the camera (but I knew this already).

The rapid fire 10-shot burst works wonderfully.

The entire burst should be saved (but isn't), so that post-photo processing can be used.

The Nikon Coolpix S8200 is a new point-and-shoot travel-zoom camera, featuring a 14x, 25-350mm lens and a 16 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor.

Much of this is only visible if you view the shots at 100 percent on screen, so those looking to make large prints or do a lot of enlarging and heavy cropping-especially of low-light shots or of things taken with the lens fully extended-will probably want to pass on this camera.

Awesome pictures, love the HD video, but the order was incomplete.

It's an easy to use, intuitive camera.

The anti shake is good for me and the colors are vibrant and attractive.

Lens

This camera takes amazing pictures i loved it!!!! The zoom can take clear pictures from a couple hundred feet away and looks just as good as close up pictures.

The zoom is awesome, and looks just as clear as taking them without the zoom.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 100% by by Rosalyn-K.-Taylor--rktaylor (Dec, 2011)
I even tried a shot at a flower from 20 feet away and with the quality of this zoom, you would swear I took it from 2 inches away!

Flash

I love the silver color, I can see what everybody is saying about the pop up flash it does take getting use to it but so far I like this camera.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 100% by by Steph-R. (Aug, 2012)
If you are unaware of the flash you might ruin your picture by putting your finger where the flash is.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 100% by by Katie-Cab (Jun, 2012)
This camera takes great pictures in very low light so turn off the flash and it won't popup.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 100% by by J.-L.-Ryan (Aug, 2012)

Image quality

The resolution is very crisp and the colors vibrant.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 100% by by Gardening-Fool--kindsoul (Jun, 2012)
But, if you use any of the multishot modes, like HDR or Night Landscape, or any of the burst shooting options and you'll be waiting much longer as the camera processes and stores images.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 72% by by c|net (Jan, 2012)
The camera worked well in low light and at night and shot amazing videos as well.

Zoom

The Nikon Coolpix S8200 increases the megapixel count and the zoom to keep up to speed with the competition, although merely average image quality and a slight price increase prevents us from recommending Nikon's latest travel-zoom model more highly.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Oct, 2011)
This camera has a great opticial zoom for its size.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 80% by by Bill-C.-Youngquist (Mar, 2012)
Although very slightly thicker than the S8100, the S8200 is still very slim for a camera with a 14x zoom lens, but note that the camera does measure over 70mm deep when the zoom is fully extended.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Oct, 2011)

Video

One bonus is many movie file formats, which makes it easy to put video on our assus tablet!! The camera body is large enough to hold easily.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 | Rated 100% by by crocodile-bobbies
The video is excellent, in fact I've taken way more video than stills, not something I planned and it's been great.
