There are so many models out there and this camera is really a good fit for those who want to just take good looking photos and videos without having to go to school to learn how to operate this camera.

Three of these are for high-speed continuous capture, but these are only available at reduced resolution (10.2fps at 5 megapixels or 15.2fps at 2 megapixels - use these only when you do not plan on making big prints).
SP-800 UZ by Photography Blog (Apr, 2010)
All of the sample images in this Review were taken using the 14 megapixel JPEG setting, which gives an average image size of around 6Mb.

Olympus SP-800 UZ
Canon Rebel T4i
Fujifilm FinePix HS22
That's what Olympus still calls them when they appear in a DSLR or Micro Four Thirds camera, but ever since the introduction of the mju Tough 6010, they have been calling them Magic Filters on their compacts.
SP-800 UZ by Photography Blog (Apr, 2010)
With an impressive ISO of up to 3200 sensitivity (unfortunately, the higher the ISO, the higher the distortion and graininess when enlarged for prints) you can also take excellent shots of moving subjects.
SP-800 UZ by Steven-J.-Streitfeld--SJS (Apr, 2010)

wide angle lens

Olympus SP-800 UZ
Canon PowerShot A1000 IS
Nikon Coolpix L810
By using Panorama function you can take up to 3 shots manually or automatically and the camera's computer "stitches" them together into one panoramic wide angle shot.
SP-800 UZ by Steven-J.-Streitfeld--SJS (Apr, 2010)
The Pop Art filter boosts saturation and contrast, the Pinhole filter alters the colours somewhat and adds a very obvious vignetting effect, the Fish-eye filter causes straight lines to bend outwards as if the picture was shot with a fish-eye lens (it does not recreate the ultra-wide angle of view though), while the Drawing filter does exactly what it says on the tin and converts your photos into black-and white drawings.

aperture size

Olympus SP-800 UZ
Fujifilm FinePix F770 EXR
Canon PowerShot SX500 IS
There are several shooting modes available and the camera has a small user-friendly internal manual to explain each mode and what flash, ISO, aperture, white balance settings are available for each mode, making taking pictures almost foolproof.
SP-800 UZ by Steven-J.-Streitfeld--SJS (Apr, 2010)
The zoom is incredible and and super close up pictures are the best I've ever taken.

What's amazed me most, especially at this price point, is the sharpness of the images across the zoom range.
SP-800 UZ by Tom-D (Jun, 2010)
The 30x zoom lens of the SP-800UZ handled chromatic aberrations pretty well for such a long zoom, but in some cases, coloured fringes were in evidence along contrasty edges.

The 2GB of internal memory is super nice as is the cameras small size and lightweight.
SP-800 UZ by Macuser
The camera is remarkably lightweight, but that's not necessarily 100% positive news.

shutter lag

Olympus SP-800 UZ
Nikon Coolpix L810

Having mechanical image stabilisation on board helps, but the only surefire way to avoid motion blur in hand-held use is to use a fast shutter speed.
SP-800 UZ by Photography Blog (Apr, 2010)
For example, on the iAuto mode, you cannot set the rapid shutter settings.

max continuous shooting

It really is not a true burst, but a cross between burst and automatic settings.

The fifth burst setting is the feature I find most useful.

The new, wide-screen rear display may not have record-breaking resolution, but it is at least fairly easy to see outdoors, even in direct sunlight.

Then after adding additional sharpness and color saturation to the images in a photo editing program the image quality looks stunning!

Lens

The zooming action is pretty smooth for a power zoom, and reasonably fast too; certainly much faster than changing lenses on an SLR.

The camera is very good with an incredible zoom, and all the other stuff are in perfect conditions.
Olympus SP-800 UZ | Rated 100% by by S.-Montalvo (Jun, 2010)
The Olympus SP-800UZ is the latest in a long series of ultra-zoom cameras from Olympus, and one of only two digicams in the world to offer a 30x optical zoom.

One feature offered by the Olympus SP-800UZ that wasn't present in the SP-590UZ is the ability to shoot 720p high-definition movies.

AA batteries in my book is better because you can always get your hand on more batteries.

My old Olympus C3040Zoom with its conventional 4 AA batteries outlives the SP-800UZ's daily expensive battery change by a month or more.
