That said, there's no denying that the FZ100 is a more fully-featured, easier to use and faster camera than its predecessor, and with full HD movie recording on-board, it could replace your video camcorder.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 is a new super-zoom camera featuring a wide-angle 24x zoom lens, 14 megapixel high-speed MOS image sensor and 11fps continuous shooting at full image resolution.
Lumix DMC-FZ100 by Photography Blog (Aug, 2010)
I also generally limit my pixel setting to 7.5 since I NEVER print anything larger than 11" x 14" and rightly or wrongly I feel 7.5 megapixels is plenty to give me a quality image.

It is true, bottom line, there are just too many pixels for that size sensor.
Lumix DMC-FZ100 by jyg (Dec, 2010)
Noise is apparent at ISO 400 but becomes much more obvious at ISO 800 along with smearing of fine details, with the fastest speed of ISO 1600 being something of a last resort.

With the good wide angle to super telephoto and excellent color the FZ100 is an excellent tool for the digital artist.
Lumix DMC-FZ100 by Mark-A-Heifner (Sep, 2010)
The things I was looking for was a real dedicated batterys (not AA's), a wide angle, and a high zoom.

The pictures I've taken in full zoom, even with digital zoom added, are amazingly crisp and clear.

If you set the camera in the 10mp picture size, the zoom goes from 24X to 37.9X. Now the camera is actually zooming in more than the Canon SX30IS!

But if you're looking for a fantastic jack of all trades tool that can do an ok job replacing a camera and a bag full of lenses AND your video recorder that fits in a nice, neat little lightweight package then the FZ100 very well may fit the bill.
Lumix DMC-FZ100 by J.-B.-Oconnor--JBOConnor (Feb, 2011)
Overall I can see why it's a recommended camera for general use/travel/safari, it's small, lightweight, flexible, and fast to get into action, and can be carried all the time.

The shutter lag is non-existant.

With the addition of a 24x zoom lens, 11fps burst shooting for JPEG and RAW files, large free-angle LCD screen, full HD 1080p movie mode recording, rear control dial and external hotshoe, the DMC-FZ100 is a far more capable and also more intuitive camera than its predecessor.

From shot to shot without the flash you're waiting only 0.9 second; adding the flash drags that time to 4 seconds and is really the only slowdown you'll find.

The big lens is very high quality, with minimal optical distortion at wide angle.

Lens

I used it in all sorts of conditions to take pictures at our local dahlia festival and got some really great indoor and outdoor shots of the dahlias and great close up shots of bumblebees (macro mode is outstanding).

very nice to take with you, without bringing that extra lens, i would not suggest the reccomended case shown,it's a little small, and the camera only fits on end,i'll look for one a little bigger.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 is dominated by the non-interchangeable 24x zoom lens that provides an incredibly versatile focal range of 25-600mm.

Video

The HD video is also an excellent option, my compact Lumix has this feature which totally amazes me and the FZ-100 full HD really is great to capture spontaneous video moments.

Image quality

It does awesome in natural light settings but late at night inside my home the picture quality isn't as great.

Although I have not used most of the features of the camera, the photo quality on the auto mode is very good.

I have owned a Canon G12 but sold it quickly because its handling was just too sluggish despite having very nice image quality.

Zoom

Thanks to newly incorporated Intelligent Resolution technology, with the Intelligent Zoom turned on, the DMC-FZ100 has a camera zoom range of 1 - 32X, or a 35mm camera equivalent of 25-780mm at maximum 14mp picture size!

The second set used a zoom of 24X at 30 feet, and the last set was zoomed at 37.9X, and about 38 feet away from the object.

With that being said, the FZ100's results still are good, and from what I've seen from the other 20+X Zoom cameras, it still beats them.

And it shoots in RAW as well as JPG or RAW AND JPG for those who like to fool around working with RAW processing.

There's a Program mode, too, should you want to adjust aspects like ISO, white balance, and exposure compensation, but not worry about shutter speed and aperture settings.

Sure you can PP to whatever but having those native colors in RAW is impressive.
