In addition, as we've found with other recent Sony cameras, both compact and interchangeable lens models, high-speed modes like Backlight Correction HDR and Hand-held twilight work well and add real value to the camera.

A step down in megapixels from my canon, but if the picture quality was great, I could live with that.
Cybershot DSC-HX100v by B-Joslin (Jul, 2011)
Had a bigger zoom, so I figured that would compensate the Megapixels and still allow me to crop as I like to do.

It's pretty obvious even after one day, how superior it is to any other camera in this sensor size class.
Cybershot DSC-HX100v by Byrna
No raw output, but with the noise reduction at minimum I don't think you loose much, given the sensor size.

I actually switched between cameras depending if I needed a really wide angle or wanted to be less obvious.

The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX100V is one of the best super-zoom camera that we've ever reviewed, offering a compelling mix of advanced features, excellent still image quality, fantastic lens and a class-leading video mode, all at a price that is competitive with its main rivals.
Cybershot DSC-HX100v by Photography Blog (Jun, 2011)
The HX100V is aimed at users for whom pocketable size is trumped by the desire for more traditional DSLR styling and functionality, larger control points and a zoom lens that would be unwieldy, to say the least, if coupled with 'traditional' compact camera ergonomics.

The Sony Cyber-shot HX100V is the latest in a series of 'superzoom' cameras from Sony which are intended to combine the versatility and portability of compact cameras with a DSLR-like form factor and operational ergonomics.

Add in the 3D Sweep Panoramas and 3D Still Images, amazing 10fps burst shooting mode and 0.1 second auto-focusing, and it's very easy for us to highly recommend the Sony CyberShot DSC-HX100V as an all-in-one, do-it-all camera that won't break the bank.

I was able to get excellent pictures of most anything in bright sunlight.

I was getting tired of switching lenses on my Nikon D80, and couldn't find the focal length or the zoom that I wanted within a reasonable price range.

Lens

Almost a professional camera it usurp their territory making PRO Quality HiDef clear and crispy shots (16MP).30X Zoom plus Digital Zoom take you to the smallest details.

I am truly amazed at the shake free pictures that I get at 30X zoom made possible by optical shake correction.
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100v | Rated 100% by by H.-N.-Shankar--HNS (Aug, 2011)
The former is great for macro photography, where the focus can be precisely adjusted while viewing a magnified portion of the image, but we preferred to use it to more accurately zoom through the focal range.

Zoom

The Steady-Shot optical image stabilization function works well for both still image and video capture, a benefit which is especially valuable at the long end of the HX100V's zoom, where without it, camera shake would inevitably ruin sharpness.
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100v | Rated 73% by by DPReview (Oct, 2011)
The image stays crisp, even when zoomed in as far as it goes.

Video

This point and shoot camera has finally meet my various expectations: long range, image quality, easy to use with options for manual controls, and high quality video, too.

would like to point out that I am a former owner of a DSLR - the Canon EOS 50D, which I sold, to change my photo habits for a more affordable camera which could also do excellent full HD videos.
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100v | Rated 100% by by Byrna
The HD video is fantastic every bit as good as my stand alone video camera.

Image quality

Here is what I liked and disliked....Likes: The camera is solid, has great features, great picture quality with sunlight, good high ISO up to about 800, SD card compatible, great zoom, good portrait low light pictures, great burst shooting, excellent video.
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100v | Rated 60% by by Keith-in-Dallas--K (Oct, 2011)
On the other hand, the hand-held twilight mode can produce some really remarkable results in low light.
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100v | Rated 100% by by A.-A.-Katz (Aug, 2011)
The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX100V's maximum shutter speed is 30 seconds in the Manual mode, which is great news if you're seriously interested in night photography.

Screen

One thing that upset me was that, when taking the photo in I mode, reviewing the picture on the LCD shows very strong color, as if it's using the "vivid" setting.
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100v | Rated 100% by by X.-Chen (Jun, 2011)
It was bright and very sharp, making photo composition very easy.
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100v | Rated 100% by by Byrna
Despite its massive zoom lens, the HX100V is still quite a compact superzoom, weighing 577g with the battery and memory card fitted, with a large 3-inch, 921k-dot resolution LCD screen at the rear tilts 90 degrees both up- and downward.
