I have nice Panasonic, Canon and Nikon pocket cameras - the pixel quality on the Fuji are superior.

I've heard that some monitors aren't really accurate in terms of color, sharpness, and especially exposure, so I wasn't sure I'd trust this one.

You can shoot at normal or high resolution, and at 14 megapixels you will get resolution easily good enough for printing photos or posters.
FinePix SL300 by Terry-R.-Nye (Sep, 2012)
The sixteen megapixels (can you believe a camera in this price range has 16mp)?

sensor size

Fujifilm FinePix SL300
Fujifilm FinePix HS25 EXR
The SL300 features a 14 megapixel CCD sensor with sensor-shift image stabilisation, a massive 30x optical zoom with a focal range of 24-720mm, 720p HD video at 30fps, a 3 inch 460k dot LCD screen, faster start-up, improved auto-focus speed and an upgraded response time.
FinePix SL300 by Photography Blog (May, 2012)
Once you get a couple of priority mode settings down and reduce the photos to a smaller size in-camera at around 7 megapixels, then images improve a good deal; of course, this means in order to get the best from this camera, you're sacrificing pixels - and you're paying essentially for a 7 megapixel camera instead of a 16 megapixel camera.

wide angle lens

Fujifilm FinePix SL300
Fujifilm FinePix HS25 EXR
The 24 mm wide angle of the lens is nice when I need a photo of the bigger picture.
FinePix SL300 by Bruce (Jul, 2012)
And I love the looooong zoom range - 24-720 is PRETTTTYYYY impressive.

aperture size

Fujifilm FinePix HS25 EXR
You do not have the range of creativity that a more expensive true SLR camera would offer, particularly with its limited aperture settings, but you can take some pretty nice photos with this camera.
FinePix SL300 by Terry-R.-Nye (Sep, 2012)
The shutter speed in Aperture Priority, aperture in Shutter Priority and both in Program Mode are only displayed if the Dynamic Range is not set to Auto.

30x

30x
The 30x optical zoom means that you can reach subjects that are too far away for the majority of cameras, even other superzooms, and the camera looks good and is built to a decent standard.
FinePix SL300 by Photography Blog (May, 2012)
Not a great choice for bird and wildlife watchers if you expect the full zoom out of it to work perfectly, then.
FinePix HS25 EXR by Gregory-A.-Henry--atlantagreg (Aug, 2012)

body size

122 x 93 x 100 mm
130 x 98 x 126 mm
For its size it is quite lightweight.
FinePix SL300 by Terry-R.-Nye (Sep, 2012)
Although it won't satisfy the person looking for a teeny, tiny camera, in every other way this is without any hesitation an excellent purchase.

max continuous shooting

I've been able to take identifiable photos of small birds in trees up to 25 - 30 feet high above me, even in dim light, and the burst shooting has helped me record several really cool in-flight shots as well.
FinePix SL300 by S.-Hannon (Nov, 2012)

If you order this camera while the the FREE MEMORY CARD is being offered, be sure to read the "Learn more" section at the end of the "Buy This Camera, Get a Free Memory Card from AmazonBasics:" I assumed buying the camera automatically would include the free SHDC class 10 4 GB memory card.

Best features if you are just looking to point and shoot and do HD video, why you should get THIS and not a camera for $100 less.
