Rated 76% by by DPReview (Jul, 2012)Noise levels are very well controlled through ISO 800 and don't actually become distracting until ISOs greater than 1600.

Conclusion Which is better for you?
Features Key features of the Fujifilm Finepix X10 compared to the Canon PowerShot G12
MP12
2/3"
Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Nov, 2011)Other key features of the Fujifilm X10 include an ISO range of 100-12800, full range of manual controls, Fujifilm’s EXR shooting modes, optical image stabilisation, raw image capture, a hot-shoe, an integrated manual pop-up flash, film simulation modes, 360° motion panoramas, 1cm macro mode and an electronic level gauge.
10 MP
1/1.7"
Rated 100% by by raphael (Jan, 2011)If it does turn out to be very sharp, it might be an alternative to the G12 for those who don't want an optical viewfinder and an articulating screen, since the XZ1 zoom lens is very fast throughout its range, and the XZ1 bulk and weight are less than the G12.
megapixels
| 0 MP | 12 MP | 20 MP |
Finepix X10 by Acoustica (Jan, 2012)There still seems to be confusion about whether in RAW, or at least when in RAW, you are actually getting a 12 megapixel image or a 6 megapixel one.
PowerShot G12 by The-Doon (Mar, 2011)As a knowledgeable amateur photographer my dream camera will be a 5" X 4" X 1/8" frameless camera with super hi resolution detachable wireless LCD display, 36 Megapixel extreme low light sensor, 18 to 480 zoom lens which does not extend beyond the body of the camera through it's full range, full resolution Raw shooting of 20-30.
sensor size
Finepix X10 by DPReview (Jul, 2012)While the X10's AF system focusing speed is roughly on par with compact camera competitors like the Panasonic LX5, it lags behind the performance of the best contrast-detect systems we've seen, like those in the current crop of Micro Four Thirds cameras, for instance.
PowerShot G12 by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)Headline features include an image stabilised 5x optical zoom with a focal range equivalent to 28-140mm, and a relatively large 1/1.7-inch CCD sensor - smaller than the APS-C sized chip in a DSLR but large for a compact – providing 10 million pixels.
wide angle lens
Finepix X10 by George-SherwinPersonally, I loved the smoother, less resistant original lens, but can only assume that Fuji bowed to the handful of whiners who complained that it was too easy to turn it off when rotating to the Wide Angle position.... really.
PowerShot G12 by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)Another 28mm equivalent wide angle shot, here with Vivid 'My Colors' mode selected to add punch to the blues and greens of the landscape.
aperture size
Finepix X10 by Tim-Kimzey--fstop (Sep, 2012)The good thing is that it is FAST f/2 to f/2.8-thats much better than most small P/S's and probably the MAIN REASON i bought this camera.
PowerShot G12 by Ronald-K.-Schlie (Feb, 2011)Full auto is always a welcome feature when conditions dictate, but the ability to easily shoot in aperture and speed priority is in my mind the most important.
zoom range
| 0x | 5x | 5x |
Finepix X10 by MeridianX (Nov, 2011)Bottom line is the X10 is better built, resolves detail better, is cleaner at higher ISO settings, manual zoom, focuses much faster, great skin tones and has a very good viewfinder.
PowerShot G12 by NB (Dec, 2011)Its very easy to use, takes the best photos of any camera I have every purchased (of the compacts) and the battery is still FULL after 280 photos !! You can always tell when you zoom in or crop and find excellent image quality even at 1/5th size.
body size
117 x 70 x 57 mm
112 x 76 x 48 mm
Finepix X10 by georgehd--georgehd (Dec, 2011)For anyone who is used to using an SLR, this is an excellent backup or small camera to carry when you do not want to carry a larger SLR.
PowerShot G12 by Luis-GPI bought the G12 because my "serious" bag with the 30D and all the heavy lenses and flashes has grown too big and expensive for travel and everyday tasks, not to mention intimidating to others.
Performance Real world tests of Fujifilm Finepix X10 vs Canon PowerShot G12
battery life
300 photos
350 photos
Finepix X10 by DPReview (Jul, 2012)We don't really see the point of using the Continuous IS mode for either stills or video, particularly since it taxes the X10's already short battery life.
PowerShot G12 by Jeffrey-K.-Ericson (Jan, 2011)The photos are fabulous, the battery life is amazing, even with lots of flashes, and the ability to quickly and accurately set manual or program settings is actually easier than on the Nikon!
max continuous shooting
Finepix X10 by c|net (Dec, 2011)Its burst shooting sounds fast, but it's pretty limited: 7.5fps for one second.
PowerShot G12 by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)Admittedly, however, a continuous shooting speed of up to 4.2 frames per second for action shots is better than most entry level DSLRs.
DxOMark low light performance
Finepix X10 by Jay-Gatsby (Aug, 2012)I am extremely impressed with the X10, the images are sharp even in low light without flash, colors are vibrant and with it's 2.0-2.8 lens, you can take multi shots very quickly.
PowerShot G12 by Hal-B.-Zenner (Aug, 2012)Using the low light setting (the one with the candle icon), I was able to take decent pictures with good color and acceptable sharpness.

viewfinder
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 100% by by sznajder (Dec, 2011)What i like on Fuji over Leica - build quality and finish is better on Fuji, viewfinder is great addition, for me size is better on Fuji ( never carried my Leica in my pockets) DOF - well, I like it more on X10 and pictures look phenomenal on both cams giving slight edge to Fuji which photos look more like from film times.
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Nov, 2011)Optical viewfinders are something of a dying breed amongst modern cameras, so it's very refreshing to see X10 feature one, offering 85% scene coverage, diopter control, a bright display and zooming in and out as the focal length is changed.
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 90% by by TrustedReviews (Dec, 2011)The back of the X10 is adorned with a 2.8inch, 460k-dot TFT LCD monitor that offers 100% coverage and good viewing angles.
lens
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 76% by by DPReview (Jul, 2012)The X10's 28-112mm (equivalent) zoom lens is reasonably versatile and impressively fast, maintaining a respectably wide maximum aperture even at its maximum telephoto setting.
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 100% by by Christian-X (Nov, 2011)This camera has the retro looks, classic dials (fast access) and fun to shoot with; size is just right and feels good b/c that magnesium alloy body material; I like the Fujinon lens to be honest, Nikkor, Fujinon and Leica are my favorites; I like X10's bright and fast lens f2.0-f2.8(telephoto) makes it real good for low light shooting.
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 76% by by DPReview (Jul, 2012)While F2.8 on the X10's lens is clearly not equivalent to F2.8 on a full-frame camera in depth-of-field terms, when set to an equivalent focal length equivalent and maximum aperture the X10 can deliver a very similar background blur to an APS-C DSLR with kit zoom.
sensor
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 90% by by TrustedReviews (Dec, 2011)As mentioned previously the X10 uses an all-new 2/3inch EXR CMOS sensor that delivers an effective resolution of 12MP, and which is backside-illuminated for better low-light performance.
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Nov, 2011)Find out if it can deliver the goods in our in-depth Fujifilm FinePix X10 review, complete with full-size sample JPEG and raw images, videos and more... The Fujifilm Finepix X10 is an advanced compact camera that offers a retro design, 12 megapixel 2/3-inch EXR CMOS sensor, a 4x, 28-112mm, f/2.0-2.8 zoom lens with a manual zoom ring, optical viewfinder, 1080p movie recording, 7fps burst shooting and a 2.8-inch LCD monitor with a resolution of 460,000 dots.
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 76% by by DPReview (Jul, 2012)Due to the unique design of the X10's EXR sensor, however, we're also providing access to the 6MP resolution images in both Raw and JPEG mode.
exposure
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 90% by by TrustedReviews (Dec, 2011)In keeping with its advanced-compact positioning, the X10 offers a generous range of exposure modes, with the semi- and fully-manual creative quartet of Program, Aperture-priority, Shutter-priority and Manual (PASM) complimented by a fully Automatic mode, 16 individual Scene Position (SP) modes, and two user-defined Custom modes.
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 100% by by E.-Hung (Dec, 2011)Besides full HD 1080p/30, the X10 supports dynamic auto focus, auto adjustment of exposure, and even auto adjustment of white balance, all without significant lag when you pan the camera around the scene.
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 76% by by DPReview (Jul, 2012)Along the X10's top plate you'll find the main exposure mode dial, threaded shutter release, customizable Fn button and an exposure compensation dial.
coverage
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 90% by by TrustedReviews (Dec, 2011)This is considerably larger and brighter than the viewfinders found on competitor models like the Nikon P7100 or Canon G12, although it does need bearing in mind that the slightly offset field of view (it's not looking directly through the lens) and 85% frame coverage mean it should only be used as a guide rather than a precise framing tool.
Fujifilm Finepix X10 | Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Nov, 2011)In addition to the high-resolution 2.8 inch LCD monitor on the back, which has 460k dots and offers 100% scene coverage, the X10 also features an optical viewfinder.

| | 3 | Canon PowerShot G1X Least noise at high ISO |
| | 4 | Canon PowerShot G15 OK viewfinder coverage |
| | 5 | Nikon Coolpix P7100 2-way tie: Most zoom |
| | 6 | Nikon Coolpix P7700 Good benchmarked shot to shot times |
