Rated 80% by by Photography Blog (Dec, 2011)grey. Whilst this may seem like a frippery to some, the core headline features are a modest sounding 10.1 megapixels yet from a larger than average 11.3MP, 1/1.63-inch CCD, a wide-angle focal range the equivalent of 24-90mm in 35mm old money, or a 3.8x optical zoom - equally modest in these 'travel zoom' times but adequate - plus a 3-inch LCD bestowed with 460k dot resolution.
Rated 75% by by DPReview (May, 2011)Fujifilm unveiled the FinePix X100, a compact camera with an SLR-size APS-C sensor and traditional analogue control dials, that hides ground-breaking technology inside a retro-styled body with looks to die for.
Conclusion Which is better for you?
Features Key features of the Leica D-LUX 5 compared to the Fujifilm FinePix X100
12.2 MP
APS-C
Rated 75% by by DPReview (May, 2011)For the very best results, though, it still makes sense to switch to the EVF for short-range shooting.
megapixels

D-LUX 5 by Photography Blog (Dec, 2011)Generally however the level of detail captured is very good.
FinePix X100 by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)Announced at Photokina six months ago but just hitting the shelves now for a price of £999.99, the 12.3 effective megapixel FinePix Finepix X100 has got the photographic industry seriously a-buzz.
sensor size
D-LUX 5 by Ben (Nov, 2011)Granted my 5D is a bit dated now, but it's still pro quality full frame DSLR and better than 80% of all DSLR's out there.
FinePix X100 by E.-Speaker-Jr.--ts (Jun, 2011)that, combined with the fast lens and very seldom need for the flash gives you a pretty stealthy advantage for candid photography over huge SLRs with giant lenses.-the overall image quality is pretty outstanding, even compared to some SLRs also using the same APS-C sensor (but of course depending on the lens), like the Canon 70D.
wide angle lens
D-LUX 5 by Dr.-Bitz--Boss-Angeles (Jan, 2011)The wide angle lens is a stunner as well, especially in the video mode.
FinePix X100 by Patrick-French--Tech-Junkie--Tech-Architect* "sweeping panorama" shots are good enough in a pinch to replace a 17mm wide angle shot.
aperture size
D-LUX 5 by Sean-Foulkes (Mar, 2011)The little aperture/shutter speed adjust dial by your thumb is small, but works great considering it is almost invisible.
FinePix X100 by Tsur (May, 2011)That, combined with the sharp, wide, fast lens should make it a great indoor shooter.
zoom range
| 0x | 3.8x | 4x |
D-LUX 5 by L.-Nery (Nov, 2011)In the last trip I took I had many friends with huge Nikons and Canons, two were pros... and even though they had better zooms, at least in those particular travel pictures I can assure you - my Leica on A was just as good as their DSLRs most of the time.
FinePix X100 by C.S.-MichaelThe best aspect of the X100 is the manual control - dedicated controls for aperture, shutter speed, and exposure control.
body size
110 x 65 x 25 mm
127 x 75 x 54 mm
D-LUX 5 by TL (May, 2011)I needed a compact camera for everyday use as my DSLR and the equipments are quite heavy to carry around, so I did some research and tested various compact cameras and 4/3 systems cameras, and decided to get this leica camera as it has the best combination of size, build quality, picture quality, and zoom range.
FinePix X100 by taylor (Jul, 2012)i have to say that it is a little over priced for a compact camera, but I'm pretty happy with the pictures taken with it, so it's all good.
Performance Real world tests of Leica D-LUX 5 vs Fujifilm FinePix X100
max continuous shooting
D-LUX 5 by Patrick-D.-Warthen (Aug, 2012)One other thing I did was insert my 128 GB 45MB/s memory card into it and set it to burst mode.
FinePix X100 by c|net (May, 2011)And the burst mode is less of a continuous shooting mode than a best-shot mode; it runs at about 5.2fps, but only for 2 seconds, and then you have to wait while it writes those 10 photos to the card.
