Nikon also added a simple 3D photo mode; take one shot, and move the camera slightly to the right, and it fires off a second shot and combines them into one MPO file for viewing on a 3D display.

Indeed, according to the specifications (pg 6) the aperture has only 2 positions f3.3 and f6.6 (at the widest zoom), although you don't have a choice even there.

The zoom lens is very powerful, though maximum zoom requires either a tripod or a very stable hand, and the pixel settings allow for well defined detail shots.

While I love the idea of the P300s fast 1.8 lens, the P300s zoom range is around 24-100mm, whereas this camera's is 25-300mm, and I really need the zoom more than the fast lens.

battery life

The S9300 is powered by a lithium ion rechargeable pack that is rated for 200 shots; that's OK, but keep in mind that using the zoom a lot or the movie and burst-shooting modes will kill battery life faster.
Coolpix S9300 by c|net (Mar, 2012)
The battery life is good, too.

There's a Fixed Range Auto option that will limit you to ISO 125-400 or ISO 125-800; I recommend using the former outdoors and latter indoors when possible.

Much of this is only visible if you view the shots at 100 percent on screen, so those looking to make large prints or do a lot of enlarging and heavy cropping-especially of low-light shots or of things taken with the lens fully extended-will probably want to pass on this camera.

I sure hope the battery indicator lights works because the last Nikkon S8200 I had didn't have a working battery indicator.

There's little we would have liked to see added to the S9300; maybe a slightly better build quality on the appendages such as the battery door and HDMI cover.
