Features Key features of the Nikon D7000 compared to the Canon Rebel T4i

MP16.1

APS-C

Back view of Nikon D7000
The camera produces great image quality in most shooting situations, and it shines in low light, providing (just about) useable images right up to its ISO ceiling of 25,600 (equivalent).
Rated 80% by by DPReview (Nov, 2010)
Angle view of Canon 650D / T4i

17.9 MP

APS-C

Canon clearly put a lot of thought into its implementation, and the EOS 650D sports the most comprehensive and intuitive touchscreen interface we've yet seen in any camera.

megapixels

17.9 MP

16.1 MP

RAW format uses full 16.2 megapixels so files are huge (would be nice to see an option that allows you to choose how many megapixels you want to use when shooting RAW).
D7000 by R.-Wandrei--social_bunny (Nov, 2010)
To be honest, super megapixel just hasn't been enough to prompt me to buy anything new.
Rebel T4i by PaulMcCarl (Oct, 2012)

sensor size

Nikon D7000
Canon Rebel T4i
With its APS-C sensor the Nikon D7000 cannot quite produce the very shallow depth-of-field footage that the Nikon D3s or other full-format DSLRs offer but it still gives you much more control in this respect than most consumer video or digital compact cameras.
D7000 by DPReview (Nov, 2010)
When its APS-C sensor is combined with a reasonably fast lens, the EOS 650D offers the opportunity for creative use of shallow depth of field, something that will be a revelation to anyone used to shooting video with their smartphone or compact camera.
Rebel T4i by DPReview (Aug, 2012)

viewfinder size

Nikon D7000
Canon Rebel T4i
Even 6400 can give nice shots, and the HI-2 (equivalent of 25,600) can give very usable shots if you don't mind heavily post processing them and only using them reduced to web sizes.-The metering is noticeably better, so I have to adjust the exposure less, and have fewer blown highlights.-The viewfinder is larger, so its easier to see what you're doing.-The auto white balance has a much wider range of correction, and is more accurate.
D7000 by J.-Carrow (May, 2012)
The camera overall is pretty responsive if you only use the view finder.
Rebel T4i by Richard-Lin (Feb, 2013)

body size

132 x 105 x 77 mm
133 x 100 x 79 mm
Smaller weight and size is becoming much more important to me and this camera is a very good trade off of features for size and weight.
D7000 by B.-Fuller (Oct, 2010)
I have completely changed my mind, it will be worth carrying around a little extra weight on vacataions, etc. because of the quality difference.

I loved the feel, the speed, the metering, especially for flash photography, the ease of use, the focus points (and accuracy) and the controls.
D7000 by val (Sep, 2011)
Whereas the 600D offered only one cross-type AF sensor in the centre of the viewfinder, all nine AF points of the 650D are of the cross-type variety.

Autofocus tracking accuracy is helped of course by the new 2016-pixel RGB metering sensor for scene recognition, which facilitates 3D tracking by subject color/contrast, as well as aiding metering and white balance accuracy.

This latest version of Digital Photo Pro which is provided with the EOS 650D includes a new, fairly comprehensive lens correction module which allows you to correct your raw files for vignetting (peripheral illumination, purple fringing (color blur) and chromatic aberration based on lens profiles, offering greater control than the 650D's in-camera corrections).

The Nikon D7000 lets you dial in shutter speeds of up to 30 seconds and has a Bulb mode as well for exposure times of practically any length, which is very good news if you are seriously interested in night photography.

The camera also has a Creative Auto mode which is targeted at beginners who have grown out of using the Scene Intelligent Auto mode, allowing you to change a few key settings using the LCD screen via a simple slider system for changing the aperture and exposure compensation, or Background and Exposure as the camera refers to them.

It's not a lightweight camera, but it feels very sturdy and well built, with a solid grip and enough heft to offset the weight of many heavy pro lenses.

If you shoot raw, you've got latitude up to about ISO 1600, but you'll end up applying a lot of luminance NR to get rid of the hot pixels.

We were shooting mainly using natural light with the D7000 - both indoors and out - and were very impressed with the results we were getting from combination of sensor and supplied 18-105mm zoom lens.

ISO performance is pretty good on the whole and while some noise does begin to show itself as low as ISO 400 images retain their integrity right up until ISO 12,800.

While the D7000 is capable of capturing beautiful video images, the camera is sorely lacking in audio controls (to the point that the built in mic input port is of questionable utility - it's just tough to capture quality audio with this camera).

You will slightly overexpose the closest subjects, but the areas of the photo farther away will have better (not perfect) lighting.

touch

The D7000's light touch (hair trigger) shutter release takes a little getting used to, but it definitely minimizes the chance of camera motion blur when taking a picture.

* The T4i camera body: a fantastic camera, yet some of the technology (like the touch screen) is new, and therefore isn't necessarily the most intuitive, eg turning into video mode is easy, starting the video recording is a special button, not the shutter release which i've used on other cameras.
Canon Rebel T4i | Rated 100% by by Jeff-Rayner (Nov, 2012)
The 18 megapixel 650D / T4i offers a dual AF system which ensures sharp stills as well as continuous autofocus tracking when shooting movies, a 1,040,000-dot vari-angle LCD screen complete with touch-screen operation, a 63-zone metering sensor, standard ISO settings of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600), and 5fps continuous shooting.

The EVF in the GH2 has a higher resolution than the its own LCD screen as well as the LCD screen on the D7000, so it is very accurate and sharp...plus you gain the ability to see realtime info such as a histogram and exposure settings displayed while looking through the viewfinder.
Nikon D7000 | Rated 80% by by I.-Bilynsky--Info-Center (Feb, 2012)
The LCD screen is the same too - 3 inches and 921k dots, and like the D90 the D7000 comes with a clip-in screen protector as standard (the BM 11 - not pictured).
