But it is still a compact camera with a sensor 1/8 area of most DSLRs and 1/20 of full frame (mostly pro) DSLR.
Lumix DMC-LX3 by Pseudorandom-Parents
For the most part, the XS offers a solid set of entry-level specs: 10-megapixel, APS-C-size, CMOS sensor (for Canon's traditional 1.6x focal-length multiplier) and 7-point user-selectable autofocus system.

I have a Fuji F30, long considered the king of compact low light cameras, and in reality the LX3 is able to get far more low light shots than the F30.

Natural light - I am loving taking pictures with natural light and use the flash as little as possible.

The camera generally underexposes, which you can compensate for, and while the color is good, outdoor white balance tends to be overly cool.

They're neither persistent nor large enough to be easy to spot, so I frequently found myself having to prefocus several times to make sure that the spot was on the correct subject and that it was focused.

It will fit easily into a jacket pocket, but like most serious cameras it comes with a good quality neck strap, and there is an optional and rather retro-looking leather case.

For those just easing in to photography, I'd look elsewhere- perhaps a. Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black).

The few hd videos I have shot are surprisingly nice but they are not what I look for in a still camera.
