Features Key features of the Pentax K-30 compared to the Pentax K-01
MP16.1
APS-C
Rated 100% by by luizpaulo (Dec, 2012)On the camera side, dual sliders is great to quickly set aperture and shutter speed, and the viewfinder is also very good, bright and clear with 100% coverage.
16.1 MP
APS-C
Rated 70% by by Photography Blog (Apr, 2012)If you're looking for a small and lightweight camera, the K-01 isn't it - indeed, this is one of the biggest and heaviest mirrorless camera bodies released to date.
megapixels
| 0 MP | 16.1 MP | 20 MP |
K-30 by David-Pierce (Jul, 2012)Its 16-megapixel APS-C sensor is average for a DSLR, but it still does its job admirably.
K-01 by Photography Blog (Apr, 2012)All of the sample images in this Review were taken using the 16 megapixel Best JPEG setting, which gives an average image size of around 6.5Mb.
sensor size
K-30 by DPReview (Oct, 2012)Like all DSLRs with an APS-C sensor the K-30 gives you much more control over depth of field than you'll get from the vast majority of consumer video and digital compact cameras.
K-01 by Kentucky-Colonel (Mar, 2013)I can't think of any dSLR at any price that can be fitted with a 24-840mm lens (equivalent) at any price - and the higher digital noise of a small sensor camera isn't an issue when the image size is only "HD" and moving at 24 or 30 fps.
body size
130 x 97 x 71 mm
122 x 79 x 58 mm
K-30 by Mik-Ponder (Feb, 2013)The weight is good, a nice solid feel and well balanced even with the 55-300mm lens attached.
K-01 by marc-campbell (Mar, 2013)It holds its own with the best in the market as far as image quality and functionality are concerned, but is untouchable where price holds significant weight.
focus points
| 0 | 81 | 90 |
K-30 by David-Pierce (Jul, 2012)There are plenty of autofocus points and settings, but try as you might you won't get fast focusing performance.
K-01 by J.-Conner--qm2-703 (Feb, 2013)Also, more solid-mass subjects seem to work better as focus points.
Performance Real world tests of Pentax K-30 vs Pentax K-01
DxOMark image quality
K-30 by vagrant10--mhThe DA 18-135 picture quality is really good - it's quite sharp, gives great colors, and has a handy range where I can shoot pretty wide to a decent telephoto.
DxOMark low light performance
K-30 by Dyanek2000It is better than average in low light, handles well and I don't have to worry about sudden rain when I'm shooting.
K-01 by Jayesh-Patel--ProfitFromPrices* With included 40mm lens, you can take impressive portraits and low light photos.
continuous shooting
K-30 by DPReview (Oct, 2012)With this feature activated the number of frames in a burst and the buffer full rate during continuous shooting decrease significantly.
K-01 by TrustedReviews (Jun, 2012)At this setting there is no upper limit on the number of consecutive shots you can take.
battery life
410 photos
500 photos
K-01 by terry--terryThe battery life was dismal, it is more a function of how long the camera is on rather than the specified number of shots you can take.

Pentax K-30 | Rated 100% by by Discount-Copiers (Feb, 2013)I originally went to a local Inkley's to buy this camera but the white Pentax K-30 was over $1,200 with the 300mm lens, Once I told them I found the camera on Amazon for $880 with the lens they warned me about purchasing the camera online because the vendor would short the box (Sell the charger etc. separately) and give me a non-weather proof 18-55mm lens, they couldn't be more wrong.
photography
Pentax K-30 | Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Aug, 2012)The Pentax K-30 is a great alternative to similar offerings from the likes of Nikon, Canon and Sony, proving that Pentax can continue to deliver the goods in their core business, despite recent misfires in the world of compact system cameras.
Pentax K-30 | Rated 100% by by Lloyd-W.-Hayes--Lloyd (Dec, 2012)I bought the K-30 a few months ago, and have used it for portraits.

zoom
Pentax K-30 | Rated 80% by by TrustedReviews (Aug, 2012)At around £679 with the sealed 18-55mm DA WR zoom lens, the K-30 isn’t the cheapest mid-range DSLR on the market and would certainly benefit from some high street discounting – something that generally tends to happen within a couple of months of release.
Pentax K-30 | Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Aug, 2012)The Pentax K-30 is available in three colours, white, blue and black, priced at $849.95 / £599.99 for the body only, and $899.95 / £649.99 for the kit including the DA L 18-55mm zoom lens.

aperture
Pentax K-30 | Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Aug, 2012)Consequently it feels well-matched to the K-30, although it's a rather slow lens at both ends of the focal length (f3.5-5).
Pentax K-30 | Rated 90% by by Photography Blog (Aug, 2012)The Pentax K-30 has a shooting mode dial on the top-right of the camera which allows you to select either one of the advanced mode like Aperture-priority, Shutter-Priority and Manual, or the more point-and-shoot Auto and Program modes.
Pentax K-30 | Rated 74% by by David-Pierce (Jul, 2012)Whether I was flipping through menu systems or scrolling through aperture stops, the K-30 always kept up.
ruggedness

Pentax K-30 | Rated 74% by by David-Pierce (Jul, 2012)The K-30's rugged body protects solid internals, too: it shares its 16-megapixel APS-C sensor and Prime M processor with the K-01, promises six frames per second shooting, and can recording 1080p video at 30 frames per second.
Pentax K-30 | Rated 74% by by David-Pierce (Jul, 2012)There's a fine line between feeling rugged and cheap The elements have nothing on the K-30 You can't beat an optical viewfinder Great for the basics, terrible for the harder stuff Why can't anyone fix the camera menu?
