That said, if you downsize the images to match the resolution of similar super zooms, the HX200V comes off looking pretty good.

I wanted a camera to supplement my Canon Rebel (an older model with fewer megapixels and no special features).
Cybershot DSC-HX100v by Joanna-Daneman
To top it off, it features the highest resolution sensor in a compact camera (18 Megapixel, which may or may not be a good thing) as well as one one of the most powerful zoom lenses (30X).

So image quality at 100% size is lower than those of a 10 mp camera with a similar sensor.

I own a DSLR with several lenses, know my way around shutter speed, iso, white balance, aperture, etc) I've also owned several point and shoot cameras over the years since they are easier to carry around (and I'm less worried they will break/get lost.

The HX100V is aimed at users for whom pocketable size is trumped by the desire for more traditional DSLR styling and functionality, larger control points and a zoom lens that would be unwieldy, to say the least, if coupled with 'traditional' compact camera ergonomics.
Cybershot DSC-HX100v by DPReview (Oct, 2011)
On one hand this camera offers an easy way to shoot with a 30x zoom but if you are a pro I doubt you will be happy with the resulting noisy images.

Add in the 3D Sweep Panoramas and 3D Still Images, amazing 10fps burst shooting mode and 0.1 second auto-focusing, and it's very easy for us to highly recommend the Sony CyberShot DSC-HX100V as an all-in-one, do-it-all camera that won't break the bank.

HX100V would let me use a little of zoom feature with macro, but with this new HX200v, it takes 3-5 seconds before it automatically macro focuses if the zoom is used a little.

video

I determined that my priorities had changed to indoor action picture quality as number (1), with portability and video not as important anymore (as I rarely used the video on the HX100V, and I was already carrying a bag to hold the camera stuff).

The dedicated Movie button on the rear of the DSC-HX100V allows you to start recording a movie with a single push of a button, and then stop recording by pressing the same button - a lot more intuitive than having to select the movie mode then press the shutter button, as on most compacts.

Present and correct is the increasingly ubiquitous ability to shoot High Definition video clips, but unlike its main competitors the HX100V does so at full 1080p HD rather than 1080i or 720p, and also with stereo sound rather than mono.

I have to admit that I was expecting the HX200V to be near the top of the chart for dimensions and weight, but it turns out to be about average for both.

Overall dimensions are 121.6x86.6x93.3mm and the HX200V weighs a starter DSLR-like 531g.

With the older one, when I first took it out of the box, it was a shock, but, I instantly liked it as the rubbery texture allow me to grab the camera confidently, and, with HX200V, the embossed texture is thin and it is less characteristic, slight disappointment, but you won't even notice it.

zoom

The Steady-Shot optical image stabilization function works well for both still image and video capture, a benefit which is especially valuable at the long end of the HX100V's zoom, where without it, camera shake would inevitably ruin sharpness.
