A question about

I do not want to support Apple any more, but do love the quality of their products. Is there a PC that has a similar build quality and design?

I got a SONY VAIO T13 ultrabook. Not the slimmest out there but i needed the various connection ports the T13 provides (i am providing computer services so i needed a proper ethernet port, proper HDMI and proper RGB out). i5-3317u Ivy Bridge and 128GB SSD with 8GB RAM. What i like most about T13 is that it's dead easy to replace battery, RAM and Hard drive (compared to other ultrabooks where you have to take the whole system apart to do that).

Also very similar to Apple Macbook Pro design is the Lenovo U310 but is heavier compared to T13's 1,5Kg.

I love the keyboard of T13 - slightly shorter travel range of the keyboard keys gives a very elegant feeling while typing.

Well it really depends on what you are going to be using it for. For everyday use/bussiness, I would look at the Samsung Series 7 Chronos. It has a very sleek look just like the MacBook Pro and even has a huge touchpad with multi-touch gestures, although to be honest, the touchpad does take some time to get used to. Plus with a second generation i7 and 8GB of RAM, it definitely get's things done. Another feature that I really love is the ExpressCache 8GB "hybrid" drive that your OS is loaded on. This allows for about a 15 second boot from a cold start. Also the battery life is awesome! I can go a whole day of pretty average use at school/work on one charge. Plus you can get one for under a thousand right now.

Forget Sony and go for "HP Envy", I'm using Macbook pro and used sony/hp.. before.

hp Envy is the only alternative for me after MBP.

I also suggest any Sony VAIO laptop model. This is a very good competitor of Apple manufactured laptops. if you are looking for great quality, durability, as well as stylish design. You may check the Sony's newest laptop model online.

The HP Evny laptops might be the best match. Although I would recommend taking a look at the Samsung Series 9 laptops.
