Screen is more than big enough (I thought it might seem too small- the 10" acer/asus ones are just teeeeny to me and I wondered if the extra inch would really make a difference- well it does).

The machine is fairly quiet, although the fan ramps up pretty high if you are using the dual core processor to its full capacity.

The hardware it's comparable: they both have 1.6ghz dual core processors, and I know this doesn't have a solid state drive like the Mac, but it does have a 500gb hard drive instead of the 64gb ssd in the Mac, and I can always or in a ssd for around a hundred bucks if I want.

Only three gigs of RAM, so I upgraded to eight, because I like to have both Lightroom and Photoshop with Word open and my music playing all at the same time without any slowdown and I've got some big files, so more RAM was necessary for me.

Touchpad

TOUCHPAD: while others are not thrilled with the touchpad, I did not see any difference between the touchpad of Asus 1000HA and dm1.

Optical drive

Doesn't have a DVD drive but you can buy an external DVD player and you're good to go.

Storage

Note: Forget the fancy detail of, "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection", the fact that a laptop this portable has 500GB at 5400rpm is standard, a 7200rpm or a SSD hard drive would have been better.

There's an extra memory slot to add another 4GB of RAM, and at some point I'll probably replace the HDD with an SSD, so the performance is only going to get better, but even as it is now it's performing admirably for what it is.
