It would have been wise for Samsung to have made the laptop upgradable to at least to 16 gig of ram or more.

The way the laptop lid is hinged to the base prevents the screen from opening more than (I'm guessing) 120 degrees, but this isn't a big deal at all.

But the amazing thing is how Samsung has engineered the bezel around the screen to be so small.

screen resolution

ASUS G53 Series G53SX
HP ENVY 15
The resolution of the screen is extremely adequate, but not excessive,(remember that the retina display which incidentally is manufactured by Samsung is not a useful feature in say, watching movies), and for reading text and looking at images the resolution of this screen, 1600 x 900, is extremely adequate.
Series 7 NP700Z5A by S.-Lir (May, 2012)
The Samsung has a higher resolution screen (perfect resolution in my opinion at 1600x900), although I do prefer the 16:10 ratio the Apple still uses more than the 16:9 ratio that everyone else has gone to.

Cons: poor choice of broadcom wireless card, signal strength deteriorates rapidly after 10 feet, only single band 2.4 GHz wireless n so the 5.8 GHz band is not available.

The graphics processor isn't the best, but I'm more than happy.

For $1149, you get:Quad-core i7 processor, 6 GB RAM (easily upgraded to the max 8 GB), high quality discrete ATI graphics card for gaming, slot loading optical drive, FANTASTIC backlit keyboard with a full numeric pad, 8 GB expresse cache for quick starts and better efficiency, and an outstanding 1600 x 900 matte screen which may be my favorite feature overall.

I also upgraded the RAM to utilize 12GB of RAM with an 8GB SODIMM matching same specs as the Samsung SODIMM soldered to the board.

Also, if you're doing anything more than replacing a chip of RAM, you'll have to take the whole bottom cover off.

The keys aren't too deep, but deep enough to be satisfying.

I am not pleased with the choice of the broadcom wifi, which does not support 5ghz wifi.

I can get about 3 hours of solid usage from 100% battery charge after owning the computer for about 5 months.

Screen

The fact that the screen of this laptop is non-reflective is a big plus as it allows users to use the laptop in very bright lighting without seeing their reflection on the screen.

To remedy this issue, you can deactivate the self adjusting screen lighting, or just slightly change the angle of your screen.

Type

The maximum amount of ram possible is 8gig, but this is a lot more than necessary unless you plan on editing picture files of over 6 gig; also remember that Windows 8 will be less resource intensive than Windows 7 and thus that you will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 with no problem, if you chose.

Samsung has built a very capable machine that is at least as good if not better than the 2011 MacBooks in virtually every area-especially if you're a Windows user.

The Macbook has a good inch of bezel around the monitor, whereas the Samsung has a quarter of an inch of bezel on the sides and about a half inch of bezel on the top and bottom.

Having some form of volume control on the chassis would have been awesome, rather than running it through fn keys.

Touchpad

The trackpad does take a few minutes to adjust to, but it's much nicer than any other trackpad I've ever used.

I tried to connect this Samsung with my Wi-Fi router and with other Wi-Fi networks, but the connection is always limited or doesn't work well.
