While its pixel density is not quite high enough to natively display 1080p video content, movies looked great on the laptop's screen.

That said, the VAIO's display didn't appear as bright as other large mainstream notebooks we've tested, specifically the HP Envy 17 and Dell Studio 17.

When it comes to big-screen notebooks packing Intel’s blazing Core i7 processor, Sony is definitely playing catch-up with the rest of the field.

The VAIO F’s strong showing isn’t surprising: the benefit of Core i7 processors is that their quad-core architecture offers blazing performance.

That said, with a Blu-ray drive, Nvidia GeForce 540M graphics, and a full 1080p resolution display, it's a tricked-out movie-and-gaming machine (perhaps the "F" stands for full-featured-Sony's Vaio naming conventions are among the most maddening in all of laptop-dom).

We quickly took to the VAIO F’s island keyboard, which combines a sturdy panel with large keys whose satin finish feels soft to the touch.

Webcam

Right now, the technology is being embedded into select Sony notebooks and cameras, so one could take advantage of TransferJet by either touching two such digital cameras together or, as in this case of the VAIO F Series, placing a TransferJet camera on top of a similarly equipped VAIO laptop.

Like other vendors, such as HP, Sony includes face tracking technology with its webcam, which means the camera will pan and zoom to follow your face, keeping it in focus, as you move around in front of the camera.
