That said, with a Blu-ray drive, Nvidia GeForce 540M graphics, and a full 1080p resolution display, it's a tricked-out movie-and-gaming machine (perhaps the "F" stands for full-featured-Sony's Vaio naming conventions are among the most maddening in all of laptop-dom).

Harddrive

Other VAIO F models even offer RAID 0 configurations of 256GB for an extra $150.

To get a little better performance, you can spring for a faster but smaller 500GB, 7,200-rpm hard drive without increasing the price.
Sony VAIO F Series 2.93 GHz, 6 GB, 640 GB HDD | by LaptopMag (Nov, 2010)
The 7,200-rpm hard drive is fast, too; it copied a 4.97GB folder of mixed media at a rate of 29.2 MBps, which beats the category average of 27.5 MBps.

As you can imagine for a laptop this size and power, battery life is not the VAIO F's strong suit.

The only time the computer choked was when we had just inserted a Blu-ray movie to play using Corel WinDVD BD Reference Player, and briefly switched back to our browser to take one last look at one of our tabs.

Sony does, however, pack a decent amount of extra software into the system, and unlike previous years where Sony was well-known as a bloatware king, there are a few apps on here that are real gems.
