Rated 100% by by none (Feb, 2011)PRO:-Quad core i7 chews through pretty much anything you can throw at it, from Photoshop to simple tasks.-Flash barely taxes the CPU.-Even with "only" a 5400rpm drive, it loads apps and docs fast.-Screen is absolutely gorgeous, best laptop screen I've seen bar none.-Dedicated number pad is very convenient.-Rock solid construction.-Can't beat the value for the price: 6GB RAM, 750GB hard drive, Blu-Ray, full HD screen, 2 batteries.

Features Key features of the HP ENVY 17 17.3", 2.9 GHz, 8 GB, 1,500 GB HDD compared to the 17.3", 2.2 GHz, 8 GB, 1.5 GB HDD
GHz2.9
Rated 40% by by Michael-Hallisey--Ex-Fossor-Sessio-In-Angulus (Dec, 2011)For the dollar, it's loaded with an impressive array of hardware (RAID Array 0 HDs, slot BluRay, true HD display), the extra battery was a bonus, and the ability to upgrade RAM from 6GB to 16GB was sweet.
2.2 GHz
Rated 80% by by NewBreed--NewBreed (Jan, 2011)Ok, both the asus and toshiba models had the gtx 460 card and a slightly faster processor, but the 5850 with 1gb of gddr5 is very good, It's got 6 gbs or RAM, a beautiful 17.3 full hd display, blu ray, plenty of storage and a core i7 quad core processor.

ENVY 17 by Christopher-Dougherty (Jun, 2011)Pros: This is a portable PC powerhouse meant to rival Mac...large screen, which is easy to view, large keyboard, will run just about everything out there.
ENVY 17 by novice (Oct, 2010)I didn't realize how large the screen is , but once you are used to it its great.
screen resolution
ENVY 17 by LaptopMag (Dec, 2010)For the non-3D version of the Envy 17, HP offers a BrightView Infinity display, which has a 1600 x 900 resolution, standard viewing angles, and a 60-percent color gamut.
ENVY 17 by Rajib-Bhakat (Nov, 2010)It's fast, looks cool and the screen with 1920x1080 resolution is great.

ENVY 17 by Israel-Hernandezwith "hyper-threading" so if you don't speak geek what it means is that you virtually have (and you will see in your task manager) 8 (eight) 2.0 GHz processors running simultaneously this is awesome.
ENVY 17 by LaptopMag (Dec, 2010)The non-3D Envy 17 starts at $1,299, but adding a 1.6-GHz Core i7-720QM processor, a 640GB, 7200-rpm hard drive, a 1080p Ultra BrightView Infinity LED Display, and a Blu-ray player brings the total cost to $1,749 on HP's site.
processor
ENVY 17 by D.-F.-Watt--dfwattI deliberately avoided the i7 quad core processor because of the heat issues (glad I did, and the system doesn't really get that hot).
ENVY 17 by Israel-HernandezThis is a new i7 2.0 GHz processor (CPU) and it is quad core (4 CPU in one) BUT!
memory

ENVY 17 by Nicole-Wilson (Sep, 2010)Other 1: "RAM" The RAM is rated to run @ 667MHz but Everest reports that the max the Envy 17 will push it is 609MHz, so there's another underclocked part here.
ENVY 17 by TrustedReviews (May, 2011)It's backed by a fairly standard 4GB of RAM, though if you're buying in the US you can configure this up to 8GB.

ENVY 17 by Cory-R (Jun, 2011)This is my first truly high end laptop, coming from a systems builder perspective and a semi-netbook owner (I own the HP Mini 311-1000NR 11.6-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 6.25 Hours of Battery Life which barely qualifys for a netbook).
ENVY 17 by zakkb-AWS (Jul, 2010)Battery life has been good so far - the extra 9 volt battery is an awesome bonus.
