I have easily converted dvd's from the macbook and threw them on an SD to watch and it plays most of the usual formats (not mkv yet) but mp4 worked fine.

In this way, the HDMI plug on the Acer is 1000 times better, since it is normal HDMI port and feels solid at that.

Nearly instant on (no waiting for Windoze), great screen size -neither too big nor too small- pretty much virus proof (Not even a mac book can make that claim any more) and always up to date with the latest software.

The Acer Wi-Fi Chromebook will feature an updated Intel Atom processor which should function quite nicely.

This came with Windows 7 Home Premium, a 320GB hard drive, 2GB DDR3 RAM, and a faster processor than I will ever use for surfing the web (the point of buying a netbook).

I skipped the first generation Chromebooks after reading about the poor performance of the Atom processors, but jumped at this iteration literally minutes after it was available.

The screen looks great and its really bright and the speaker sound good for their size.

7/10). The overall construction of the machine is of decent quality, can feel a bit cheap at times though; and it feels quite heavy for its looks; not that its weight is of any issue.

I am very pleased with the long battery life, the auto updating which allows for an "always current" computer, the smooth workingoperation.

Most of all my installed applications are on my large, clunky, laptop that weighs 3x what a Chromebook or tablet weighs but it stays on the desk in my home office and that's where I do heavy duty photo editing, CAD designing, etc..

PERFECT for commuters since it is so compact and lightweight, yet big enough to be more comfortable and easy to use than a Netbook...In fact, after using this today, my old HP Mini netbook is going on eBay tomorrow!

You can only play back what's supported in the Chrome browser, and naturally there is no optical drive, so no DVDs, no high-def Matroska files, etc..

wifi

I tried hopping off Wi-Fi and using the Verizon 3G data connection (built in to the $549 version of the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook, but not present on the $449 Wi-Fi-only model) to set up "free" 3G wireless, and the process was generally painless.

The cpu will cut down significantly on streaming video stuttering that the acer chromebook will see (only the acer wifi only version has the N570, but a smaller screen though; as of June 2011 pay the few extra dollars and get the Samsung 3g unit... On a final note: I almost wish I hadnt bought my ipad2, but I got tired of waiting for the chromebook to release and needed a portable computing device(I dont use windows netbook/laptops or Mac)).

Something that on a Windows or Mac system takes a couple of seconds to do, on a Chromebook requires finding a site, uploading the file, waiting for the file to be processed, and then downloading the file.

Our experience with the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook last year left us underwhelmed: it had smoothly running hardware and a clean operating system, but with such a limited set of uses compared with Windows, a high sticker price of over $400, and the requirement of being online to use most apps like Google Docs, the Chromebook didn't add up to a logical choice for anyone other than a Google cloud devotee.

And this Acer chromebook doesn't replace a phone obviously simply because it's too big (though you can make and receive calls from it using google voice), but between chrome os and android, I like chrome os much much better.

Here's the biggest problem with the Chromebook: the hardware's fine, and the simplified Web-based OS is clever, and even versatile if you don't mind its limitations.

The onboard Intel Celeron processor isn't clearly labeled or documented on any of the Chromebook's spec sheets; it's called an "Intel Core" processor in our review documentation.
