The laptop now measures .66 inches thick, but more shocking is its weight.

I loved the size and weight at first but after some use I was worried that it wouldn't hold up for long.

I can't tell that this is such an inexpensive laptop, since all these programs respond perfectly even though I am probably using the maximum ram.

Operations is quiet, the high-resolution LED-backed screen is superb - but you need to have good eyes, I can imagine others will have a hard time with the super-fine resolution.

We've been impressed with the keyboard, screen resolution, weight and "feel.

It's just to much chip to allow for cooling, so the dual core i7 is mainstream, but if you look close, this one has a much faster i7 than many.
VAIO Z Series by Mark-J.-Tierney--coastie-1980
I purchased this computer from OfficeDepot, and I purchased this one because I knew that a dual core processor would be very powerful, and it was fabulous for the amount of money I would be paying for it.

This review is for the VPCZ line, and the version I have has the Core i7 M640, and 8 GB RAM.
VAIO Z Series by MuddyAzian (Jan, 2011)
Intel Core i3 Processor is insanely fast paired with the amount of RAM that comes with it for indexing large files on the 640GB hard drive.-4GB RAM really increases the boot time in my opinion.

Without it, even tho it's not very thick, this makes the Vaio amazingly thin - almost to the point of it looking like a dept store dummy display.

Having a good grasp of current hardware and an enthusiast in building custom computers (Liquid cooling to subzero cooling included), I was looking for a laptop that would fit what I was looking for.

The SSD is blazingly fast, the machine never gets even slightly warm (despite the fact that I usually run a number of CPU hogs on it), the keyboard is amazingly comfortable (It has a similar chicklet layout to the MBP keyboard), the screen is phenomenal (by contrast, the Thinkpad screen is much too dim).

The screen is a good size and the image quality is very good.

The screen is on-par with most other laptops in this price range, although the horizontal viewing angle surprised me, with little to no visible loss in image quality.

The webcam that is located at the top of the screen is not the greatest of webcams.
