The Sony Xperia S isn't a 4G phone, while the LG Optimus is, so the latter will be faster if your carrier provides you with a LTE network (if you're on a 3G network though, you'll see 3G speeds regardless of whether your phone has 4G capability). The LG Optimus also has slightly longer battery life and is a little bigger, so it may be the phone for you based on your criteria. The tradeoffs are that the Xperia S has a much better camera, has an FM radio, has more storage capacity, and can handle a more recent version of Android than the LG.
