Thankfully, due to the quality of the screen, headphone jack and speaker whatever you're watching is generally easy to make out both visually and aurally.

While it’s still not as good as a hardware one, it’s the next best thing – the 3.2” screen has enough real estate for big, well-spaced keys, which are easy to hit.
Wildfire S by GSM Arena (May, 2011)
When I saw the wildfire in my local t-Mobile store I fell in love it is everything I wanted in a phone, Large vibrant screen compact and light in size powerful and easy to use.

It comes with a few notable improvements, including a higher resolution screen, so considering how much we liked the original, this one's sure to impress… right?
Wildfire S by TrustedReviews (May, 2011)
It's cute, well built and packs in all the essential features, and most importantly has a higher resolution screen than its predecessor.

There are some performance improvements over Froyo, but the Wildfire S can’t take advantage of the full Flash support (not supported processor).

The 5-megapixel camera took decent photos, but didn't wow us.

Performance Real world tests of HTC Wildfire S

cpu speed

It's certainly not the fastest processor, but the smartphone felt quite responsive.
Wildfire S by c|net (Nov, 2011)
Sporting just a 600MHz CPU, the phone can get a bit laggy while typing fast, and even navigating around the interface causes the odd slight pause.

The fast boot feature is enabled in the HTC Wildfire S but it won’t work if you have removed the battery – in that case it will do a regular slow boot.
Wildfire S by GSM Arena (May, 2011)
For general navigation, web browsing, looking up a contact and such like the Wildfire does fine, indeed the quality of the display is excellent.

Since the Wildfire S only runs on Metro's 2.5G network, data speeds can be abysmally slow.
Wildfire S by c|net (Dec, 2011)
Sadly, after my experience with the glacial data speeds and wince-worthy phone calls, I can't recommend it for MetroPCS, at least not in my neighborhood.

Its viewing angles are good, colours are punchy but accurate and the improved screen resolution (up from 240 x 320 to 320 x 480) makes all the difference over the original.

Not only was it in PERFECT condition, amazingly priced, and early; it also came with the phone case i had on my wish list and 3 extra screen protectors.

Screen

The HVGA display of the Wildfire S. As you have every right to expect, the capacitive screen response is top-notch.
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | by GSM Arena (May, 2011)
In our case here, the screen is the major beneficiary: it retains the 3.2” diagonal but gets a welcome boost to HVGA resolution.
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | by GSM Arena (May, 2011)
Display is key here, HVGA finally bringing it to acceptable levels.

Apps

The standard music library view is the Artists section, but you can easily switch to one of the other six tabs beneath, which are for Albums, All Songs and Playlists.
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | by GSM Arena (May, 2011)
I personally enjoy the graphical richness and extra capabilities that come with Sense, from access to system settings on the pull-down menu, to the way that the skin organizes apps.

Carrier

While it's already available for T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular, the Wildfire is MetroPCS' first HTC phone, ever.

We're planning to review this phone, but in the meantime, you can check out CNET's review of the T-Mobile version of the Wildfire S here: HTC Wildfire S (T-Mobile).
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | by c|net (Oct, 2011)
Editors' note: Because it's almost identical to the version for T-Mobile, this review only covers differences in the HTC Wildfire S on MetroPCS.
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | Rated 60% by by c|net (Dec, 2011)

Camera

We like the soft matt finish and the light-colored patch holding the loudspeaker grill, camera lens and LED flash that stands out against the darker finish of the surrounding surface.
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | by GSM Arena (May, 2011)
The camera is a 5 MP auto-focus unit and the LED flash looks quite powerful.
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | by GSM Arena (May, 2011)
The image quality is not as good as you can expect from a 5MP camera.
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | by GSM Arena (May, 2011)

Video

The video player interface on the HTC Wildfire S offers a full screen toggle (stretch / crop video to fit the screen) and you can scrub through the video too.
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | by GSM Arena (May, 2011)
Interesting enough you can play embedded YouTube videos right within the browser (such as our UI demo videos).
HTC Wildfire S CDMA | by GSM Arena (May, 2011)
Moreover, the framerate is only 24fps, resulting in a juddery look to any form of motion.
