With a low 854x480-pixel resolution, the phone's screen certainly won't blow you away with its sharpness or color production.

If this phone was 4g with a dual core processor and a front facing camera, I'd give it 5 stars without hesitating.
DEFY by ert_medic (Jul, 2012)
Powered by an ancient single-core 1GHz Snapdragon S1 processor paired with a small 512MB allotment of RAM, the phone felt very sluggish and practically lurched through menus and applications.

This phone has an 800MHz processor (same speed as the original Droid) and rarely lags, hangs up, or freezes on me.
DEFY by Garth-Todd (Apr, 2011)
Although this is an issue, I kind of accepted the fact that for the ruggedness of the phone (I have dropped it many times, and it still works like a charm)I had to give up some processor speed.

It's wonderfully sharp and detailed and produces pretty good colours, though it can't quite match the saturation and contrast of AMOLED displays.

Phone is nice smaller than what i thought it would be considering the durability aspects that it has.
Rated 100% by by edwzeus (Feb, 2013)
I don't use the phone to chat my life story away, to play games, for business, to be distracted with email/IM/texting (unless it's an emergency), and reserve my Interent use only when it is needed.

Screen

The screen is not huge, but it's not small either; it is bright and very easy to read.

Durability

Unboxing the DEFY, we were pleasantly surprised with how compact this handset was (especially for a rugged full-touch smartphone).

I LOVE this phone....I am known to be a bit...oh...careless with electronics (goodbye iPod touch in the toilet, and Blacberry in the tub) so when I saw water RESISTANT I thought awesome!!! So when it was time to upgrade from my old phone (Nokia Nuron) I picked one I may not kill right away, so far so good.
Motorola DEFY | Rated 80% by by Mama23Girls (Apr, 2011)
Highly recommend this phone, especially if you mainly use your phone outdoors, it can withstand most conditions and is rugged enough to take a fall.
Motorola DEFY | Rated 100% by by Sam (Apr, 2012)

Apps

I would recommend this phone to anyone traveling, getting wet, into sports, but that also have work and internet needs to fulfill... like email, chat... etc..
Motorola DEFY | Rated 100% by by Felipe-Neira-Ochoa--ipecuador (Aug, 2011)
The Music player on the Motorola DEFY takes the same approach as the Messaging app – it puts all the music related things in one place.
Motorola DEFY | by GSM Arena (Dec, 2010)
But if you're not happy with Gmail, you can easily add your own POP3/IMAP server, and the Defy is compatible with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync as well.

Battery

All in all good phone for the money don't overnight shipping is additional 60.00 and if located on east coast would receive pretty fast , i needed asap so went with huge shipping charge.

Video

The picture quality is not the best, but it is decent; I only wish it had HD video, but for quick videos on the fly it gets the job done.
Motorola DEFY | Rated 80% by by Robert-Beier (Dec, 2010)
Far from impressive on paper, but in reality videos turn quite nice and are a joy to watch.

Tew/CNET). That said, while still-life shots indoors were far from crisp, colors looked natural and exposed correctly, with the camera selecting the correct white-balance setting.
