screen size

4.7"
At 3.7-inches the screen is big but easy to manage and the textured rear makes it look solid - bordering on rough.
Galaxy W by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)
Naturally, a large share of the front of the phone is given over to the 3.7inch capacitive touch screen, but there's a silver Samsung logo sitting above it.

screen resolution

Samsung Galaxy W
LG Nexus 4
Sony Xperia J
Its resolution of 480x800 pixels means that pixel density is average but still good for a 3.7inch screen and as a result text looks sharp.
Galaxy W by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)
Colours are captured fairly accurately and detail levels are generally pretty good.

processor

Samsung Galaxy W
LG Nexus 4
Samsung GALAXY Grand
This is partly why Samsung has created the Galaxy W. It has a more standard-sized 3.7inch screen and a relatively modest single core processor, but it's also much more affordable as you can pick it up for around £228 SIM free and for free on a £22 a month contract from Three, who supplied our test handset.
Galaxy W by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)
Still, the chipset did very well in both CPU and GPU benchmarks, so one of those fancy chipsets with dual-core processors wasn’t badly missed.

The front facing camera is designed for video calling in apps like GoogleTalk and only has a VGA resolution, while if you flip the phone over and you'll see the 5.0megapixel camera staring out at you.

The camera can also be used to shoot video at resolutions of up to 720P HD.

cpu speed

1.4 GHz
The fast single-core CPU manages to hold its own when it comes to single-threaded benchmarks like BenchmarkPi.
Galaxy W by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)
It's comfortable to hold, has a good screen and camera, and its 1.4Ghz processor keeps things moving at a spritely pace.

The battery is a 1500mAh Li-Ion unit that is quoted at 570 hours of standby (in 2G, 420 hours in 3G) and nearly 18 hours of talk time in 2G (the talk time in 3G is just over 8 hours).

Next to the lens is a single LED flash to help the sensor out when it's shooting in low light, and the camera also has autofocus.

Screen

The display has good viewing angles but poor contrast.
Samsung Galaxy W | by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)
The Galaxy W photos also have good contrast and accurate white balance, but the colors are somewhat too saturated.
Samsung Galaxy W | by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)
It's bright too and its colours are warm, helping to give pictures graphics and videos a pleasingly natural look.
Samsung Galaxy W | Rated 80% by by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)

Operating System

You don’t normally need to do that since Android is pretty good at handling that kind of stuff, but power users will enjoy it nonetheless.
Samsung Galaxy W | by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)
The phone runs Android version 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), but as with all of Samsung's Android phones the company has added its TouchWiz user interface over the top.
Samsung Galaxy W | Rated 80% by by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)
Overall, while we wouldn’t describe it as flimsy, the phone feels very light to hold. This of course has its advantages but it doesn't give the phone the solid feel of many of HTC's Android offerings for instance. The battery cover, in particular, feels quite plasticky. It is comfortable to use, though, as the smaller screen means it's not as wide or tall as the S2 and the curved edges add to.
Samsung Galaxy W | Rated 80% by by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)

Operating system

It's the latest software available, and effectively the same package as on the Galaxy S II.
Samsung Galaxy W | by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)
There are traces of a pink spot that the processing software attempted to remove.
Samsung Galaxy W | by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)
Samsung's Android phones have never looked particularly beautifully – even the styling of the S2 is a little bit ho-hum in our opinion and sadly the Galaxy W doesn't do anything to change this.
Samsung Galaxy W | Rated 80% by by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)

Camera

The top part of the back has different finish than the actual battery cover, which makes it a distinct spot for the 5MP camera lens and the LED flash.
Samsung Galaxy W | by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)
The lens and LED are placed within a strip of faux-metal, which is a nice accent.
Samsung Galaxy W | by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)
In terms of image quality, the Galaxy W may not the best 5MP shooter in town, but it's as good as a Galaxy S or a Galaxy S Plus.
Samsung Galaxy W | by GSM Arena (Aug, 2011)

Video

In mostly static videos there are good levels of detail, but as soon as you start to move around detail and resolution drops off a cliff.
Samsung Galaxy W | Rated 80% by by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)
As with most of the 720p capable cameras we've used on smartphones the resulting video isn't fantastic.
Samsung Galaxy W | Rated 80% by by TrustedReviews (Nov, 2011)
The videos themselves are less impressive as we noticed a lot of jaggies on diagonal lines.

What is a good budget phone for both games and apps?

I would like lots of space, a fast processor and plenty of RAM for playing games.
