They didn't compromise the quality of the finish: the matte plastic feels pretty nice to the touch and is decently grippy, precluding accidental drops.

Naturally, with a 3.5" diagonal the screen isn't best suited for enjoying multimedia, but a small high-quality screen has its advantages over massive displays in everyday use.
Xperia U by GSM Arena (Jun, 2012)
Once connected, a standard mouse pointer appears enabling mouse operation, but it isn't very useful on the small screen of the Xperia U. It's still good to have though.

Few would've believed last year that a solid dual-core experience and a display of very good quality would be available at this price point.

Overall, Sony's skin is one of the best around, but — and it's a big but — it's still underpinned by Android 2.3.

That update will bring welcome enhancements in terms of both features and performance but even as things stand the Xperia U is a very capable and easy to use handset.

Ready to be updated to new android is fantastic, no bugs no problems at all.3- Has an interesting durable, fancy and resistant material on case, looks good, feels good.4- The screen has everything you need, bright, deep contrast, great sutured colors, HD.

Screen

Its colors are vivid without ever appearing over-saturated, and viewing angles, daylight visibility, and overall brightness are also top-notch.
Sony Xperia U | Rated 74% by by The Verge (Jul, 2012)
The Xperia P's big 4-inch screen will also highlight content in crisp detail (960x540 pixels, qHD).
Sony Xperia U | by c|net (Feb, 2012)
It also has a slightly larger 3.7" LCD, which is better suited to multimedia consumption than the tiny, by today's standards, 3.5" screen on the U. The Xperia sola will cost you a little extra though.

Operating System

I've used Palm, Blackberry, WinMobile, Webos, Ios, Meego, WP7 and Android.
Sony Xperia U | Rated 100% by by Mohammed-K.-Hassan (Nov, 2012)
This is a great budget phone, but the One V offers a good all-around package and already has Android 4.0, so where does the Xperia U stand?
Sony Xperia U | Rated 74% by by The Verge (Jul, 2012)
There are plenty of other equivalents on other Android devices but this if one of the nicer and more obvious versions we’ve seen.

Camera

But, like most phones cameras, it’s still fairly limited in terms of picture quality.
Sony Xperia U | Rated 90% by by TrustedReviews (Sep, 2012)
Not only is it tack sharp at 280ppi, but it also offers great image quality, with very good contrast and nicely saturated colors.
Sony Xperia U | by GSM Arena (Jun, 2012)
Our trip round the Sony Xperia U concludes at the back, where we come upon the 5 megapixel camera lens, which has the loudspeaker grille and the single LED flash on its sides.
Sony Xperia U | by GSM Arena (Jun, 2012)

Operating system

As you'd expect, you get the ICS multitasking menu, resizable widgets, smoother performance, and improved core apps.

Sony has fitted the transparent bar with LEDs that, when the display is on, glow in one of seven predetermined colors to match the software theme you've chosen.

Battery

Battery Cover: Pretty hard to remove, actually you press your thumbs at lower part of battery cover to push up.
Sony Xperia U | Rated 80% by by Steve-the-utility-man (Oct, 2012)
And it can be even more useful than some of you might think as the original battery only has a capacity of 1320 mAh, which hardly lasts ages.

Please note, there is a mistake in this video in reference to the phone not having a removable backplate.

Go with the Xperia U, for the memory alone. You should be able to listen to your music all day and still have room left in your phone for some cool apps.
