I think that Apple will control the majority of the market for the next few years, but as Android expands in the Smartphone marketplace, it will also expand into the Tablet market. In 2 or 3 years you will see Android as the largest tablet OS.
What is your answer?

Beginner I10 months ago John-AtkinsI agree with this time frame. I also think MS will start making a good play in this market but playing catchup is tough to do. The key is to make a device that is both consumer and business friendly. Android and iOS both have trouble with that, Android less so. If MS can get this combination working well then they can eat up some serious market share. -
Beginner I10 months ago Evan-LerdallI also agree. I think the iPad and Apple in general is more of a fad right now. Once people start wanting a tablet with real productivity I think we will see Android and Microsoft emerge in the tablet game, although I wish it would happen faster. Also, I kind of see Windows 8 as a Honeycomb/Windows Vista: just a stepping stone to something biger and better, and when MS releases the bigger and better I think they will have a real chance in the game. Who knows what Apple has up their sleeve though...

I think Windows 8 tablets such as Microsoft Surface Tablet could overtake the iPads. I believe that Microsoft continues to recreate and improve itself. Since there are so many unresolved complaints on forums about the Apple's lack of support when it comes to iOS upgrades for their older models, this will give a big break for Windows 8 tablets to be a new leader in Tablet market.

Well, I still believe in Apple technology. Yes, there are a lot out there like Android and Windows 8 tablets but it will take a lot of time and more effort for them to take the lead in the Tablet market. "Exclusivity" of Apple iPad separates it from the others. Apple technology (despite of some bad reviews) is still the best and could last in the next 10 years, not until there is a phenomenal technology proves itself in a short period of time and replace Apple.

I think that iPad (or Apple) will still remain the leader in the market for the next 10 years. Here in our country, Apple gadgets defines your status in life. I mean, if you own an iPad/iPhone here, most of the people think you belong to the upper class individuals. In this sense, the richer you are, the more respect you get.

Unless someone can come along and blow the iPad out of the water, Apple will remain the dominate force in the tablet market. Apple has been innovating and making it "cool" to carry around an iPad. Let me tell you what I mean by that. The other day while I was at the mall with my wife, I saw someone on a Galaxy. They were with their kid, or at least I assume that it was there kid. Anyway, the kid asked the person if they could "play with the iPad now". The fact that the child called this an "iPad" is proof that apple has branded the tablet as theirs. I just can't see Android ever innovating something as big as the iPad. So, in short, yes, Apple is going to remain dominate.

Android will never overtake iPad simply because they are blatant copies with meagre improvements. iPads are the original (debatable), but still the best. Windows 8 tablets such as the Surface, however, give a lot more competition. Windows 8 is almost completely geared toward the tablet interface. It has new ideas and innovation, one of the major things than Android does not. Essentially though, the Surface and the iPad have a different market. The Surface is more of a hybrid than the iPad.

I think that the only tablet that can catch up are the Windows 8 tablets. I'm not an apple fanboy or anything, but android was built by copying the features in iOS. iPad will probably still be the leader in the tablet market, closely followed by Windows 8. Those 2 operating systems innovate the way we use tablets, therefore making them leaders in the market. Android will never be anything more than a copy of iOS.
Also, iPad's share of the tablet market rose by 4% the last year. Apple released one tablet and android released HUNDREDS of tablets. What are those android tablets doing, lying around in the storage room? :D
