Tablet for student

JayVee-Valenzuela | Asked  7 months ago | Last response was 4 months ago

I bought my wife a laptop since she went back to school but it's to heavy she says. She wants a tablet that can fit in her purse. It has to be able to edit/download Power Point, Excel and Word docs with the capability of connecting to a projector to show a presentation. What would you recommend as best buy for the money?

This or Galaxy Note 10.1, both have apps to edit Powerpoint etc but if you want pure Office (Word, Outlook Excel etc) experience, you should probably consider a Windows 8 Tab or Hybrid. Microsoft will launch office apps for Android and iOS but god knows when. If you want to buy her a Windows 8 device then i would recommend Samsung ATIV Smart PC which can be used as a tablet as well as a laptop. But this might be a little larger for keeping in a purse.

The right price is 199$! An other option is google nexus 10. The most powerful and innovative tablets at the moment! I think that only the nexus 10 can connect to a projector...Also,I don't think that galaxy tab 2 7/10 have hdmi out support for a projector..

thank you, you are correct. The Samsung products cannot plug directly to a projector. Let me see if I can get that here. If not, I might have to just get the iPad mini it has the hdmi output like the full size iPads

Sounds like the Microsoft Surface would be your best bet. You can get a keyboard with it and Office is native on the machine.

My problem Brenden is I live in a 3rd world country. I'm limited to the following choices, iPad3, iPad Mini ( arriving next month here ), Samsung Galaxy Pad 2 10.1, Galaxy Pad 7.7 and Tab 2 7.0.

I just picked this up yesterday...I have had many an iPad, as well as many an Android.  Android, while it has it plusses, isn't designed for folks who are not necessarily technical; that, and as that the only advantage it had beyond being an open system is Flash (which is now gone), iOS is the best.  Also, the Mini, while not necessarily "small", is a great size to cary in a woman's purse, it is well made (the Kindle Fire, which I almost recommended, is smaller, but not as wel made), and the OS is simpler to learn.  Just an opinion, of course, and I hope it helps.

It is small, has long battery life, support multiple ebook formats (via different apps) and constantly gets a software update as soon as it is available.
