Amazon Kindle Fire HD

  • 32 GB
  • WiFi 3G
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Released November, 2012
Its larger, higher-resolution screen better facilitates Amazon's still-new Kindle Fire interface, and its faster processor makes for a much smoother and zippier experience than what its 7-inch counterpart delivered.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

With a resolution of 1920 x 1200 you will easily be able to watch videos in full HD brilliance and to be honest anything beyond this resolution in this size of a screen is overkill that is just using more power.

. - Resolution: very sharp and responsive display, book reading a pleasure.....- Sound: this wont beat your Home theater system but clearly has the best sound of any hand held tablet (I have used 3 different) or phone I have ever used.
Kindle Fire HD by Sim (Dec, 2012)
The screen is amazing in that it is brilliantly colorful, has a great resolution, and is easy on your eyes during reading.

My phone (Atrix HD) runs faster than my Kindle Fire HD 8.9, and my phone isn't even that fast (has same dual core 1.5ghz though).
Kindle Fire HD by Tony-Chang (Dec, 2012)
As far as hardware, both boast a dual core processor, though Nexus is a little faster at 1.7Ghz against Fire HD's 1.5 Ghz.

That ereader has a front-lit screen while this tablet has a backlit screen, which is much less relaxing on the eyes.

The IPS, LCD screen looks better than probably any other tablet display I've seen, save for the new iPad.

Images and text are sharper thanks to the higher resolution and higher contrast of the screen.

I bought a stylus (Belkin Professional Capacitive Tip Stylus for Kindle Fire, Silver) right off the bat because I knew that finger-on-touchscreen would be too imprecise for me-I'm used to the speed and tactile response of a BlackBerry-and it works very well.

It's lightweight, has great battery life for a tablet, and to top it off, it charges faster than any "smart device" I've ever owned (and trust me, I've owned a lot).

Screen

This is a mid-grade screen, with whites looking a little off - a little yellowish - but performance for the price is excellent.

After I downloaded my first game app I started playing it and was happy with sound that the speakers put out as well as how great it looked with the HD screen.

The screen is crystal clear and the graphics are amazing (except for Netflix movies I'm not sure why).

Apps

What I do like is the size is awsome and makes playing games like angry birds or fruit ninja even better.

Music

I've continued to enjoy the presentation of the music, and since classical is among the most demanding forms of music when looking for a full and pleasing sound, that is a very good sign.
Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G | Rated 100% by by Brent-Butler (Oct, 2012)
I was surprised to find that listening to music actually was better via the Fire HD, the Dolby sound really enhanced my music, a great deal of which is theater pipe organ.
Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G | Rated 100% by by Art-Ripley (Nov, 2012)
Watching movies on it is just great, listening to music another big surprise: the speakers are just fantastic...I did not get into the 'dolby' thing, as I thought it would just not make a difference on a small device, but the sound in LOUD and clear.

Battery

I've been using this tablet for over 10 hours so far and I must say even though the technical part of this tablet is great, sofware wise is so dissapointing.

I paid extra for the "fast" charger, but it still took probably 3 hours to charge.

Moving then to the user experience interface...remember I am coming from unadorned Android Ice Cream Sandwich and some experience of iOS 5...well, the Fire it gets the job done.

Usability - I'm liking the Kindle interface more and more, compared to the iPad or "Native" android tablets.
