It is also large enough that the touchscreen keyboard is easy.

From the outer hardware perspective (size, feel, screen), I'm satisfied.

The screen size is great for use as an ebook reader, and applications are available to read either Nook or Kindle ebooks, as well as those acquired from my public library.

screen resolution

Archos 70
Google Nexus 7
Kobo Arc
The backlit LCD has an 800x480-pixel resolution that gives movies and photos crisp detail and balanced color.

In addition to this it features a beautiful 720p resolution screen with great video play back for most video formats.

It does have front facing camera, but it's sluggish and resolution is not that great.

Video chat is still a locked out feature which raises the question as to why the front facing camera was included in the first place but with VGA resolution, it probably makes for a bad experience anyway.

processor

Archos 70
Google Nexus 7
Acer Iconia Tab A110
It doesn't run the latest version of Google's Android OS or sport the latest wave of dual-core processors, but for as little as $270, it delivers a ton of bang for the buck.

Their operating system is solid as a rock, their processors are fast and efficient, and their tablets are the best value in town.

Unless you can get a deep discount and using this tablet for young elementary school kids, more worthwhile to get the Asus or Samsung "Google" Nexus tablets to get the speed of processor and graphics.

A nice addition so that you can lower your cpu speed to conserve battery life if you take your Archos on the go!

The surface is highly reflective though, so using it outside in bright sunlight is tricky, especially if you're not enamoured with your own reflection.

The dimensions feel nice in the hand and may even fit in a generous-size pocket.

Yeah, it doesn't feel quite as solid as say, an iPad (with it's heavy glass and metal body), but it feels very well made to me and I'll take the Archos' lightweight design over the heavy iPad any day.

Some general observations: Processor is fast and responsive.

Anything older and you have to install Android 2.2 Froyo on your machine, which is a very complicated process.

Apps

It's great for music, movies, email, web, all the smaller functions like calculator, German lessons, Italian lessons, reader, and many many more.

I have been using the laptop quite a bit recently while watching the bowl games and NFL games on TV.

Granted I have quite a few apps installed, but there ARE times when you get a prompt to either force close or wait for some apps to.

Type

Well, I have an iPod Touch (running IOS), A Palm Pixi Plus (Running WebOs), A laptop (Running Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux), A HP PDA (Running Windows CE), oh, and a Amazon Kindle (running)?

The Android forums are great if you're new to Android like I am.
Archos 70 250 GB | Rated 80% by by Micheal-Matthews
This unit is worth a try for a new Android user if you are willing to approach the tablet knowing it is not the same as an iPad, be patient with the Android system if it is new or unfamiliar to you.

Screen

The interface is sharp, bright (so bright I use it at 10% of brightness), and responsive.
Archos 70 250 GB | Rated 100% by by Yair-Krauze (Dec, 2010)
Again, the screen resolution is very great and with full vivid colors, although its resolution is proportionally less than the ones on Samsung Tab and IPAD, you will definitely not feel disappointed at all.
Archos 70 250 GB | Rated 80% by by E.-Martinez (Jan, 2011)
The MOST disappointing aspect has been the screen responsiveness, much less than the one seen in IPAD but I can't say about Samsung Galaxy.
Archos 70 250 GB | Rated 80% by by E.-Martinez (Jan, 2011)

Operating system

Anyone who's familiar with the history of different OS will find striking similarities between Android and Palm OS, and to a lesser extent Windows CE or Mobile OS.

Music

The music player itself is excellent and sounds very good.

Who needs an Ipod when you can stuff this thing full of music, video and pics for your personal enjoyment.
Archos 70 250 GB | Rated 100% by by James-Townsend (Sep, 2011)
Like I said I just use it for music, but wish there was more options to choose for music like shuffle, random, repeat, etc..
