The 1,280x800-pixel resolution packed into a 7-inch display gives visuals like text and graphics a sharper look than what I'm typically used to seeing on most 7-inchers.

Apple has managed quite a feet of engineering by giving the iPad mini an impressive 10-hr battery life, which trumps its nearest rivals by a couple of hours.

Text and images look crisp and clear on the 7-inch screen — not Retina display quality, but not too far off either.

For instance, because the screen real estate is so much larger than an iPhone but icons are now roughly iPhone size, apps with lots of navigational elements can be a little less intuitive to navigate.

screen size

7.9"
Not only is the 7" more affordable than the full size tablets, its the perfect fit for your hand and the screen is more than big enough.
Nexus 7 by Shaun-Russell (Jan, 2013)
It makes this the perfect device to use as an ereader because it can be held in one hand, yet it has the full functionality of a full size iPad minus advanced retina display.

I am very happy with my Apple iPad and its amazing Retina display but there are times that I do not want to carry a heaver 10inch tablet around and so I waited for the arrival of Apple's iPad Mini.
Nexus 7 by chrisvioxxx (Dec, 2012)
I cannot imagine what a package like this will look like with retina display, looking FWD to that (this one looks very good too, not retina but much better than the Ipad 2).

The front camera is 1.2 megapixels, and the quality of it puts the one on my Apple devices to shame (I'm only talking about the front camera, the back camera on the iPad is far superior to this one).
Nexus 7 by Thaddeus-Cultt (Oct, 2012)
The iSight 5 megapixel camera takes great pictures and shoots decent movies for what it is.

processor

Google Nexus 7
Apple iPad mini
The things I like about the Nexus 7 are the speed, I absolutley love having the quad core speed.
Nexus 7 by Batmanfan2 (Jan, 2013)
+ Processor: A5 (dual core) vs. A6X (dual core with quad core graphics) - same as the new iPod touch, but not quite as powerful as the latest iPad, yet it doesn't need to be because the iPad mini display totes a quarter as many pixels!

General OS performance was excellent — helped undoubtedly by Android 4.1 and its "Project Butter" initiative which is said to vastly improve touch response and smoothness in Android.

But regardless of market positioning, the iPad mini has to be viewed in a world with a $199 Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD — two strong performers that are a far cry, at least in price, from the iPad mini.

The quad-core Tegra 3 inside the Nexus 7 is the same 1.3GHz chip we've seen in most recent Android tablets, including the 12-core GPU.

The really impressive feat of the iPad Mini, the surprise, is that it seems to handle all the iPad's normal duties while being shrunken down.

It's fast, has GPS, the size is perfect for my hand and the price can't be better than this.

The battery lasts pretty long, even with wifi turned on, It remained for over a week with low usage and a full day with heavy gaming and video streaming.

I made the mistake of purchasing the iPad mini, mainly because it was more compact to fit in a briefcase.
