the tablet is such high quality, I am surprised to find that it was bundled with such a cheaply made Bluetooth keyboard.

Don't expect a quad core to be amazingly faster than a dual core, but it can handle concurrent tasks with aplomb.

But you can't have a large screen with a small tablet!
Series 7 11.6" Slate by Wally-Asti--amazon (Feb, 2012)
You will not be producing large scale on art on this small tablet screen, but for the doodler/artist it's good enough.

screen resolution

The slate claims to have 11 in screen, sounds big, but actually due to its non regular shape and resolution, I found a lot of webpages cannot be displayed correctly if used vertically, it can only display part of web on the screen and you have to move the slide bar left and right to see the whole website, very inconvenient.
Series 7 11.6" Slate by Zhou-Zhiliang--Joe (Jun, 2012)
It's not a. "bad" display by far, but the Retina Display is simply crisp and beautiful to look at.

I had a webcam in 1998 that produced better video and still pictures than the camera on this system.

The front camera won't wow you with its quality, but at 1.9 megapixels, it won't distract you either as long as you're not planning to do more than some videoconferencing on it.

With a dual core processor it was adequate for it's intended purpose, which was to be as paperless as possible.

The speed for 1.4 Quad Core is more than impressive for now days, I'm glad that I bought it.

The screen looks great (especially next to the Asus slate) and the processor is best-in-class.
Series 7 11.6" Slate by Brad (Jan, 2012)
But if you hate lag, you'll love a quad core because there's just about always enough processor for whatever the device is doing.

sunspider 0.9.1 benchmark

Samsung Series 7 11.6" Slate
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
It may not be as great as a cheaper tablet for mobile gaming (not sure how well the integrated GPU handles recent windows games which probably are not designed for a touchscreen anyhow, and it lacks the gyroscope), but for web browsing, music playing, online video watching and kindle reading it also does a better job than the cheaper tablets due to its higher performance and full uncapped web browsing experience (Flash, Silverlight, HTML5... watch Hulu or Netflix without an app).
Series 7 11.6" Slate by Nacho (Apr, 2012)
But Galaxy Note 10.1's sunspider result is simply in another dimension.

Very nice bright screen; camera and audio are not brilliant but pretty decent; battery life is not amazing but not bad either.
Series 7 11.6" Slate by Boris-Lokhvitsky (Nov, 2011)
With the default settings-50% auto brightness, GPS and Wifi on, bluetooth off, and power savings mode off, I achieved an amazing 13:56 (hrs:mins) of battery life over three sessions before the Note powered itself off.

I need to be able to write notes that include graphics - ie music - and I need to be able to store lots of pages of sheet music for when I rehearse or perform.

If you're looking for a high performance Android tablet, I'd definitely recommend taking a good look at the Note 10.1!

I don't know if this device brings a good standard for the current tablets and note-taking software technology so far but I don't think that the software for note-taking and especially for text conversion in this device will satisfy a common group of users who have expectations other than simple entertainment and very simplistic note-taking tasks.

When I first set out to play games on this machine, I was disappointed in the decline in quality over iPad games- there are tablet optimized apps out there that are every bit as beautiful ans excellent as iPad games, just no easy way to find them (there are even lemons in the 'tablet' section of the google play store).

Where the Galaxy Note 10.1 really shows off its power is when you can resize a video window while the video is playing, and move it about with other apps running in the background.
