We performed a hands-on evaluation of the 40-inch Philips 40PFL5706/F7, but this review also applies to the other screen sizes in the series.

It looses the warmth and depth in background, and again seems choppy when the focus person or object moves, and looks really processed (like a computer straining to keep up with rate) if the background moves.

Picture is great, I like the nice solid body and stand (this model being standard LCD and not a thin LED) and the PC and media connectivity features are the best part.

40PFL5706/F7. Philips' Cinema picture preset came closest to producing an accurate picture, and we couldn't do much to adjust it during calibration.

No 3d, from what I've heard 3d is not perfected yet and the televisions that are 3d do not display 2d very well.

HD programming is crystal clear and sharp.

The "240hz" system smooths out normal viewing very nicely and the TV screen itself is reasonably non-reflective (I've never noticed reflection issues on the screen and I have a VERY bright room with french doors and three windows in front of the TV).

Content

Regular movies and sports, I love my Plasma TV.

I played blu-ray movie on and to be honest the quality is just amazing - it makes you feet that the action is really right in front of you, in your room.

I hooked it up to a panasonic bluray and the movie was flawless on every level, the sounds are delivered clearly in a smaller room (about 150sqft) and the action and movement is beautiful.

Panel

The picture is clean and crisp with impressive black levels and viewing angles.
Philips 5000 Series (2011) 40" | Rated 80% by by JLaRue (Jan, 2011)
Its best feature is a matte screen, which helps reduce reflections in bright rooms, and its picture uniformity is average.

Movies

Blu-rays look amazing on this tv, the sound could be better but it is not bad overall.

On animated movies, wow, i think this TV beats my plasma.
Philips 5000 Series (2011) 40" | Rated 100% by by Wiseguy-945
i use pretty much the same settings for both except i find i have to turn the brightness down for movies and up for gaming (40 and 75 respectively) but that might change with the game and the show, different directors/game producers make different brightnesses of movies/games (think quake vs katamari) so that may change with time.

Gaming

PS3 games look great on it and the 120hz processing make for some really high frame rates.

The performance of this television with the Xbox360 and PS3 is great.
Philips 5000 Series (2011) 40" | Rated 80% by by JLaRue (Jan, 2011)
Color and image quality are top notch and the response is wonderful and easily capable of handling any hardcore gaming (bear in mind you will want to change settings for these inputs however to turn off the 240hz, as it will lag your picture slightly and throw off your gaming - turning this off results in butter-smooth beautiful gameplay).

Apps

I love the Net Tv as it has podcasts that you can watch as well as Netflix, Pandora, Facebook etc..

Netflix and Vudu are great to watch directly from your TV - you may not even pay for cable with todays prices.
