We performed a hands-on evaluation of the 40-inch Philips 40PFL5706/F7, but this review also applies to the other screen sizes in the series.

When playing my XBOX 360 with kinect is perfect with size screen.

thickness

Philips 5000 Series (2011)
Philips 6000 Series
Philips 4000 Series (2011)
It looses the warmth and depth in background, and again seems choppy when the focus person or object moves, and looks really processed (like a computer straining to keep up with rate) if the background moves.
5000 Series (2011) by Wiseguy-945
Picture is great, I like the nice solid body and stand (this model being standard LCD and not a thin LED) and the PC and media connectivity features are the best part.

Performance Real world tests of Philips 5000 Series (2011)

power consumption

Philips 5000 Series (2011)
LG Infinia LE8500
Vizio M Series
We did not test the power consumption of this size in the Philips PFL5706/F7 series, but we did test the 40-inch model.
5000 Series (2011) by c|net (Jul, 2011)
I have connected the television to my computer and was satisfied with the performance.
5000 Series (2011) by JLaRue (Jan, 2011)

black levels

Philips 5000 Series (2011)
Samsung 630 Series (2011)
The colors looked washed out and the black levels are horrendous once you reach a decent brightness.-Blurry picture when connected to PC over HDMI.
5000 Series (2011) by J. (Dec, 2011)
We also noticed that shadows and black areas appeared quite blue, an issue accentuated by the lighter black levels.
5000 Series (2011) by c|net (Jul, 2011)

contrast ratio

Philips 5000 Series (2011)
Samsung 630 Series (2011)
LG Infinia LE8500
The picture quality is pretty good even with it's lower contrast ratio vs other sets in this price range.
5000 Series (2011) by Robert-Gates--snakes200 (Jan, 2012)
HD programming is crystal clear and sharp.

40PFL5706/F7. Philips' Cinema picture preset came closest to producing an accurate picture, and we couldn't do much to adjust it during calibration.

No 3d, from what I've heard 3d is not perfected yet and the televisions that are 3d do not display 2d very well.

The "240hz" system smooths out normal viewing very nicely and the TV screen itself is reasonably non-reflective (I've never noticed reflection issues on the screen and I have a VERY bright room with french doors and three windows in front of the TV).
Rated 100% by by Ncineration (Jan, 2012)
I played blu-ray movie on and to be honest the quality is just amazing - it makes you feet that the action is really right in front of you, in your room.

Panel

The picture is clean and crisp with impressive black levels and viewing angles.
Philips 5000 Series (2011) 40" Wi-Fi | Rated 80% by by JLaRue (Jan, 2011)
Its best feature is a matte screen, which helps reduce reflections in bright rooms, and its picture uniformity is average.

Regular movies and sports, I love my Plasma TV.
Philips 5000 Series (2011) 40" Wi-Fi | Rated 100% by by Wiseguy-945
I hooked it up to a panasonic bluray and the movie was flawless on every level, the sounds are delivered clearly in a smaller room (about 150sqft) and the action and movement is beautiful.
Philips 5000 Series (2011) 40" Wi-Fi | Rated 80% by by Jeffmguida (Dec, 2010)
PS3 games look great on it and the 120hz processing make for some really high frame rates.

Netflix and Vudu are great to watch directly from your TV - you may not even pay for cable with todays prices.

Network

We experienced better stability and range when we connected the TV via Ethernet instead of using the TV's Wi-Fi connection.
Philips 5000 Series (2011) 40" Wi-Fi | Rated 55% by by c|net (Jul, 2011)
It has a built in WiFi or you can hardwire straight to it with an Ethernet connection.

Well, guess what... I can read also... "When it says network error it means there was a network error and it won't play.

Wifi

I purchased the 5505 model of this phillips tv (without the wifi) about 1 month ago, and so far love it.
Philips 5000 Series (2011) 40" Wi-Fi | Rated 100% by by Wiseguy-945
Furthermore in order to upgrade this TV with WiFi you need to buy a Wifi Dongle (PTA01) from Europe.
