I used some of the picture tweaks found at Cnet and adjusted them for some personal taste (backlight, sharpness, motion).

I didn't think I would use the built-in wifi capable apps, but the ease of integration of apps (Amazon Prime, Youtube, Facebook) into Sony's entertainment network has been pleasantly suprising.

I performed a hands-on evaluation of the 55-inch KDL-55HX850, but this review also applies to the other screen size in the series.

Unlike Samsung and Panasonic, Sony's 2012 3D TVs like the HX850 don't support the Full HD 3D standard, so this set is incompatible with other makers' 2012 active glasses that do, such as the Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU ($55) and Samsung SSG-4100GB ($20).

UPDATE: Just watched Resident Evil in 3D using the PS3 blu ray; amazing.

I am very happy to enjoy the wonderful performance of this TV.

Viewing angle isn't as good as plasma, but is good enough when sitting in front; greyer color seem to fluctuate the most and some colors don't change at all from angles.

Panel

If you have a fast internet connection (10mbps), you can stream 3d from the Sony 3d channel.

To watch 3D you'll need to buy Sony's own specs, like the $50 TDG-BR250, which won't work with non-Sony 3D TVs.

I watch everything over a wireless internet connection, it works flawlessly, even the 3d!

Content

During normal content (games and movies), black is pure black so much so that it literally matches the bezel.
Sony HX850 55" | Rated 100% by by nick (Nov, 2012)
We have also watched a number of blu-ray DVDs from remastered technicolor source material.

The trail is not visible in normal content, but can be seen in a simple object moving through a simple solid background.
Sony HX850 55" | Rated 100% by by nick (Nov, 2012)

Picture quality

Fast motion is literally crisp/clear in the "Clear Plus" and "Impulse" setting.

Anyway, if you take the time to learn what terms mean and totally research the set-up menus and how to use them this puppy can be dialed in to a fast moving, crystal clear, vibrant picture.
Sony HX850 55" | Rated 80% by by Dale-A.-Baumann--powakai
In fact, the picture is so good and so clear and so sharp, 2D nearly looks 3D.

3d

Again, LG and Samsung probably make excellent 3D sets as well (LG is passive I believe, so the glasses are more convenient and cheaper/free with set), but I am very pleased with the performance of this set.

Type

i was researching many tv's, samsungs, and LG alike, but then i was introduced this one, the price was good (then i got it on a sale, and here am i), blacks are excellent, pretty near to plasma blacks, colors and picture quality are pretty good not as good as the 9xx series, but not that far either, i watched my first movie with it, and it was transformers 3, it looked better than in the cinema, even the PS3 XMB looked way better from my old and good too 2010 LG hd tv set.
Sony HX850 55" | Rated 100% by by P.-Acuña--The-Geek
I think both settings are better than plasma, which has dithering, color trailing, and blurring in fast motion.

I have a Sony Bravia LCD from 2008 and was just blown away with the quality of this TV.
