Comparing the GT50's best THX mode to the ST50's best mode, Cinema, I found that THX Cinema was slightly superior in grayscale and gamma, but dimmer and thus less punchy overall.

it was well worth it to lose a little bit in screen size for a far superior picture!

Like all 2012 Panasonic active-3D TVs the GT50 complies with the Full HD 3D standard, so in addition to Panasonic's own 2012 specs it also plays well with others, namely the $20 Samsungs.

The Panasonic VT30's main design improvement over the GT30 series is a single pane of glass that fronts the entire panel, eliminating the depth difference between the frame and the screen.

Of course you can increase the light output of THX Cinema on the 55-inch GT50, eliminating that difference, but even after that, THX on the GT50 isn't that much better than Cinema on the ST50 - certainly not worth the price difference alone.

3D picture quality was excellent as well in the THX 3D mode, although Samsung's flagship plasma and LCD were better at reducing crosstalk.

The 2D to 3D conversion works ok, but it isn't as good as a pure 3D movie.

The TV's sound is basic and really needs a surround sound to enjoy true sound quality.

The 3D, with good 3D movies is great.

Watching blu-rays and playing games are incredible and blows away anything I expect to see in a reasonable price range for many years to come.

Games from my PS3 look exceptionally crisp and clear, my girlfriend and I were watching football this past Sunday and she mentioned a couple of times that some aspects of the actual games we watched reminded her of how good Madden on the PS3 looked while I was playing against my brother online.
