Both types of 3D TV can handle any of the new 3D formats used by Blu-ray, TV broadcasts, and video games, and both require viewers to don 3D glasses, but each has its advantages and disadvantages.

The remote feels nice in hand and love the idea of Samsung adding the qwerty keyboard the back of the remote for browsing purposes BUT IT'S UTTERLY USELESS!! Why?

To me passive 3D gives a better viewing experience and getting extra 3D glasses is very cheap.

We performed a hands-on evaluation of the 55-inch Samsung UN55D8000, but this review also applies to the other screen sizes in the series.
8000 Series (2011 LCD) by c|net (Apr, 2011)
I've read that passive 3D sets like mine cannot display as good a picture as active 3D sets, and some reviewers complain about jagged edges on diagonal objects and circles.

thickness

Samsung 8000 Series (2011 LCD)
LG LW9800
There is no denying that this TV looks beautiful with it's thin edge and it's slim design makes it look fantastic when you out it on the wall.
8000 Series (2011 LCD) by Stephen-Gates--Steve-G
Although graced with a single-pane face-meaning the bezel and the screen are fronted by one sheet of plastic-a transparent-edged frame, and a relatively thin bezel, the LG LW9800 ultimately isn't as stylish as competing TVs like Sony's monolithic XBR-HX929 or Samsung's stunning, all-picture UND8000.

While solid in Low mode, the black levels of the LG LW9800 were visibly brighter than on the other high-end TVs in our lineup.

While Samsung's Movie mode delivered the most accurate picture prior to our adjustments, it was still overly blue with too-bright gamma and crushed shadow detail, albeit with extremely dark blacks.

The LW9800 did evince improved uniformity compared with the two 2010 LG local dimmers, as well as excellent color, but overall its 2D picture fell short of the best 2011 LEDs, including the Sony XBR-HX929 and Sony KDL-55NX720.

I really can't say enough about the quality of the design, the clarity of the picture, the ease of the setup (everything is plug n play).

The picture quality is just amazing... In fact, I watched several episodes of NCIS (from 2003) on USA HD... The quality was far superior to anything I've seen before.

Whoever is looking at this TV for home, I would certainly recommend to also think of a good set of surround speakers to really make it count.
