If you can't bear to buy a plasma like the amazing Panasonic ST50, you will pay more for the HX850 but I think you'd be quite happy with it.

The extreme edge is metallic-looking and very slightly set back from the main pane, and we love the low-profile swivel stand with its thin metal base.

One big reason, we're guessing, is because the Sony is so black to begin with, but regardless, it's a visible problem, especially in letterboxed movies.

I performed a hands-on evaluation of the 55-inch KDL-55HX850, but this review also applies to the other screen size in the series.

As much as I liked the Samsung, I looove the 929 even more and would gladly give up the 4" in screen size over the picture the 929 is capable of producing.

Watching Avatar on this set was eye opening - the opening scene of the spaceship approaching Pandora is amazing in the sense of depth, contrast, vividness of color and inky blacks.

Unlike Samsung and Panasonic, Sony's 2012 3D TVs like the HX850 don't support the Full HD 3D standard, so this set is incompatible with other makers' 2012 active glasses that do, such as the Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU ($55) and Samsung SSG-4100GB ($20).

Sony doesn't include 3D glasses with the XBR-HX929, which is surprising considering the TV's high price.

I used some of the picture tweaks found at Cnet and adjusted them for some personal taste (backlight, sharpness, motion).

Movies/tv is brighter, crisper, sharper, and the games (xbox and ps3) are a million times better than game mode or custom mode on the Vt30.

From hockey to basketball the picture is amazing.

This set handles side-by-side or top-bottom 3D, among others, so Gears of War 3 works plenty fine in 3D.
